Wow this thread got ridiculous fast.
In any case, hi-tech is generally terrible. It's the brostep of psytrance - it's like instead of moving into interesting sound design territory (forest, anyone?) or sheer aggression (darkpsy), they just make fullon with only giant peaks, the same shitty fm or unison leads, and epic drumrolls that lead into - more of the same, followed by epic drumrolls that drop into... more of the same.
Eh, but that's personal opinion. I've seen a few hi-tech acts live (and they were by FAR the worst culprits for 'just-press-play' livesets) and while there were decent moments, the kickdrum or snare roll buildups get very boring very fast. There were a couple epic moments where I said to myself, 'this lead would be epic if it were the peak of a track...' but without proper flow, it was just lost in the fray and immediately replaced by that same ol' supersaw.
But it depends what you listen for - if you want music to sound clubby and full of buildups, and full of peaks with few valleys, then hi-tech is for you. I prefer my trance to by entrancing, evolving, mesmerizing, full of valleys, slopes, peaks and other wilder landforms, and I like it surprising, unexpected but familiar like a tryst with an ex-lover, and psychedelic through sound design, not by brute force of one kick-roll drop after another.
/rant. Sorry, haven't had a jaded, stuck up, narcissistic genre rant in a while. You know how it is.

Hi friend. Hi-tek, High-tech, Hi-tec, etc... is usually a name to call a particular style of psytrance.
It sounds very similar to full on but with less cheesy, uplifting anthem themes, instead it exploits the use of harsh synth lines, dramatic drum fills and a very intense feel achieved through ostinato leads that usually are heavily modulated in terms of pitch, filter and waveshape.
Some say Absolum is the father of this subgenre, this being said you can count some similar artist on the High-tech train... CPU, Painkiller, Bliss and others under the Nuttek seal, there are also many others from SouthAfrica and Portugal that make very good Hi Tek, also called (or similar to) Twilight Psy: Broken Toy, Punchline, Lost & found, Orca, Deliriant, Chemogen, Toxical, Alienn, Cybernetix, Zion Linguist, etc...
It can be pretty obscure but contrary to formal darkpsy most Hi Tek remains on the 142 - 149 bpm range, it features an advance use of synthesizers, sequencing and sound processing... that's where the boundaries of this genre seem to fade... as some may consider artist like Cromatone, Brainiac, Materia, Earthling, Tron, etc also Hi Tek even if the sound palette is distant from the Absolum sound, still it resembles high technology usage and provides the listener with a very complex soundscape avoiding uplifting melodies and soft scenarios but remaining powerful and solid.
IMHO Great for past midnight sets. Hope you find this useful.
PS. Since this is very subjective I recommend you do your own research and remember genres are just words that people give the music so they can organize it.

Sweet! I always wondered whether my stuff was Hi-Tek or Full-On. Thanks for mentioning me among those stellar acts.
Hi-Tek for me has a more futuristic, sci-fi edge to it.
