Yeah, something like 170-180 BPM's, with cheerful and cheesy bass progressions, and the rest of the sounds are like putting your head inside a pinball machine an getting the multiball!

Some of my favorite Hi Tech artists:

penta, highko, poizon, sidhartha, sick addiction, tryambaka, demoniac insomniac, twisted system, hiyarant, kozvox, phatmatix, dirty motion, ironstein, EMP, Biorhythm, eXcell, Shift, Xatrik and Khopat.

The best example from that list to classify Hi Tech is most probably Poizon. Listen to his song called Disco and you'll understand what people are saying. It's just like darker and more technical full on.

Yeah Penta, Highko and Sick Addition are complete opposites.

If Hi-Tek is night full on, then, imho, Hi-Tek is:

3D Vision (older stuff), Yabai, Timecode, etc.

Some good artists: Lost & Found (before the album), Technodrome, Absolum, Concept, Khopat, Orca, Phatmatix & Digital Talk, Ram, Scorb etc.

All-time favourites in this style:
Scorb - Still Raving! (this one is still closer to dark but still... what a track!)
Lost & Found - Jetblack
Khopat vs Technodrome - Take Control
Azax vs Absolum - World of Illusion          Pyrex :: Traveling without moving

I think you guys are confusing Hi-Tek with Hi-Tech, two completely different genres of Psy

Wow this thread got ridiculous fast.

In any case, hi-tech is generally terrible. It's the brostep of psytrance - it's like instead of moving into interesting sound design territory (forest, anyone?) or sheer aggression (darkpsy), they just make fullon with only giant peaks, the same shitty fm or unison leads, and epic drumrolls that lead into - more of the same, followed by epic drumrolls that drop into... more of the same.

Eh, but that's personal opinion. I've seen a few hi-tech acts live (and they were by FAR the worst culprits for 'just-press-play' livesets) and while there were decent moments, the kickdrum or snare roll buildups get very boring very fast. There were a couple epic moments where I said to myself, 'this lead would be epic if it were the peak of a track...' but without proper flow, it was just lost in the fray and immediately replaced by that same ol' supersaw.

But it depends what you listen for - if you want music to sound clubby and full of buildups, and full of peaks with few valleys, then hi-tech is for you. I prefer my trance to by entrancing, evolving, mesmerizing, full of valleys, slopes, peaks and other wilder landforms, and I like it surprising, unexpected but familiar like a tryst with an ex-lover, and psychedelic through sound design, not by brute force of one kick-roll drop after another.

/rant. Sorry, haven't had a jaded, stuck up, narcissistic genre rant in a while. You know how it is.

See like with any genre, if you call it that and no one disagrees then it's that genre! What a useful thing!           http://soundcloud.com/ascensionsound

It's funny because that's the kind of trance I like (or was, since I mostly listen to old records now), as brostep is the kind of dubstep I like lol.

Back when I joined this forum, the hate was on Skazi, then Eskimo, then the cheesy morning full on with vocals. Times change.
