Yes you NEED them. If you don't have them your tracks can't sound psy.

They're controller surfaces you can use with software like Ableton Live so you aren't limited to a standard MIDI controller or keyboard/mouse.

i own a novation launchpad and i use it for my live, to make arangements on the fly.

here is a track from my mnml project played using the launchpad.

the launchpad turned into an industry standard

it's not my kind of controller... but I would like to give a try.

I've got an apc40 and it's great. I strongly recommend it to everybody using Ableton Live, but it completely sucks with any other DAW

I am totally getting a launchpad for my own live performances.. I really like the ability to re-sequence songs on the fly if you have things set up properly. I like the APC concept, but it's a little big to travel with.

i believe monome's can control all kinds of devices, synth's, 'puters.. lamps, ableton's. .
