I recommend Jack Perricone's - "Melody in songwriting. Tools and Techniques for writing hit songs."
Its very good i.e. no padding, clearly and intuitively explained, albeit with a steep learning curve. If youve already done a beginner book into music, then this would be perfect.
The best aspect of it, is that it teaches very palpable musical concepts without resorting to teaching you in a classical music fashion. i.e. no chorals, fugues. SO it skips the "traditional" methods of teaching and goes directly to the pay dirt, i.e. modern techniques used in contemporary music that are rooted in traditional music theory.

so long as the 4 bar roll flows with continuity, and doesn't repeat rhythms (& melodies) then yes, it can be a phrase.
Thank you for your help

I looked at an excerpt on Amazon and this books seems great in song writing or sheet writing or music theory, but I am not sure if it will be what I am looking for in terms of dance music production or about structures of a dance song.
Which will lead to another question below. Hope you can answer. Thank you again.

Sorry, if I am back tracking a little, but for some of the info I have been getting on the climax part of a song, I need some clarification. Here are a few definitions I found.
1A The rise in tension within a track that begins in the first break and culminates in the start of the main theme of the tune. The exciting build up
1B The main build up in the middle of the track where the beat cuts out, you introduce the main melody (Lead/Riff), bring back parts of the beat, leading to the Main Body
As you can see, these definitions are stating unless I am misunderstanding that a climax is a high energy build up that leads to the main theme or body of the song. Now look at the definitions below.
2A the pinnacle of the song, the most intense part where all the different components are intertwined to create the most dramatic moment of the song.
2B In general, a climax is a point of greatest intensity or force in an ascending series; i.e., a culmination." So apply that to music and u get place where all parts culminate, its the place in the song where energy is at its highest level
These definitions 2A and 2B to me are stating that a climax is the part of the song where everything is playing at once
So, which one is it? Is a cimax a part of a song where everything is playing at once? or is a climax a high energy build up which leads to the main theme or body.
Here are two examples somebody gave me. Do you think these parts constitutes as a climax?
Example 1
climax starts at 2:36, listen to this section
notice how many more cymbals there are, how much denser the texture is, how the section feels more intense than the rest of the piece. this is the aim of the "climax".
EXAMPLE 2
- the climax is at 57 with the lead,
-then the main body at 1:25.
Thank you all for your help, time and patience.

would be a good a ideia on the build up of the theme or after the ``explosion`` elevate the tone of the bass to give a feel that the music is more accelerated?

Sorry. I don't have a scanner.
But this book is good. You should reward this kind of effort.
