We brazilians for example have to pay 60% taxes everytime we buy a cd, plus devaluated money.. which makes it far less interesting to buy... Would you buy many cds if each costed 60 euro or similar to you?

Well I did some research. 6 CDs from psyshop.com to Brazil is 77.00 which includes shipping. 60% fee you say? That would be 40 more to the price so 120 altogether. Which is 20 a CD. Don't know how much CDs cost there usually but here atleast it's something like 25 a CD. Well lets say 20. So if a CD costed 60 to me that would be 3 x 20. Conclusion, do CDS cost 6,5 there normally?
By the way if I order those same 6 cds to Finland with a cc (which I haven't got, I always use COD) it'll be 83.61. Plus the finnish tax so I enupd paying more than you. Anyways I always use cod so those cds will cost me 106.71 plus the finnish tax.. probably over 50 more than you in the end. Which is pretty retarded considering I live only a few hundred km away from the actual store.. "The dinosaurs became extinct because they didn't have a space program."

well traveller (and other folks discussing how much a cd costs in this or that country), two comments:
an imported cd is very, very expensive in brazil. your (traveller) calculation is roughly correct, you'll pay for a cd in brazil something between 7 and 10 euros. take makes an imported cd incredibly expensive (i'm not going to get into the power purchase parity, economic crap bla bla bla cuz i don't think it cares to anyone here and i don't want to pretend to be THE economist)
and 2, despite my comment above, downloading music (or any other form of copyrighted art) w/o paying is stealing
and yes, i do download mp3, i admit. i have never bought one single psytrance cd, and i have many of them. BUT (and it's not an excuse anymore), i have realized how wrong it was to d/l stuff and not paying for it
i might substitute the mp3s in my computer for paid cds (the ones i really want - other ones will become digital gargabe)
what the heck was that, a confession?

multiply that by 3,60, and you get what I mean...

I wonder if some of you actually travelled and have any kind of understanding about economics.
Sure, in less rich countries rent, food, income tax etc. is lower.
However import taxes is generally higher, and of course imported goods from rich countries is more expensive compared to the income you getting.
From the little money left over after living expenses you have to save for childrens education and healthcare etc.
I really have hard time understanding that it should be a problem for anyone to see that buying goods produced in europe is very expensive for someone living in a less rich country.
How there can be pages with discussion about it I find really wierd and honestly disturbing.
And traveller...come again....how can 83.16 be 50 more than 120??
I checked and:
6 CD's to brazil is 77.18 EUR
Same Cd's to finland is 83.82 EUR
Tax to import is 60% in Brazil
Tax to import from an EU country to another is 0%.
As a finn buying from psyshop you pay the german VAT, and thats it, no import tax.
77.18*1.6=123.49
83.82*1.0=83.82
123.49-83.82=39.7
So the same CD's is about 40 more to buy from Brazil, not 50 less.
That is simple to understand from looking at psyshop.
How different it is to spend 123 on CD's when you have have a less strong currency and a poor economy is maybe a bit harder to understand, but you will get it sometime I hope.

so as we said, its as if an european would be paying something like 60 euro a cd, which is ridiculous...
I still buy some cds, mostly because I have an uncle that lives in america, so its cheaper to send there and he resends to me, or when he or this other friend of my grandfather comes they bring to me... or backroadsmusic.com for some funny reason the government doesnt tax, so even if they are expensive, its worth for me buying there...
and as I said... my mp3 downloading has made me buy much more music... (and the autocon example there is probably the most common thing in Brazil.. and yet we have a huge scene and lots of djs come and get payed, which is one big advantage of mp3s.. without them, brazil scene would be nothing) |

You're forgetting that I'm making very little money at the moment and everything is fucking uber expensive here. Okay I've got 100 for a week. First of all my rent is 560 a month. I've got some dedicated sponsors thou who take care of the rent so it leaves me 100 a week to spend on food, cigarettes, clothes and booze. I smoke maybe 5 packs a week so 80 left. I can easily waste 40 a week to the food store and that is if I only eat fish and other cheaper producst. So it leaves me other 40 a week. Boozing takes 50 a time atleast. It easily costs atleast 10 here to get even inside the freaking bar. And yet I manage to buy a cd every now and then..
That 20 a cd to me is like 60 a cd to our fellow brazilians..
agreed?

traveller.. YOU GET PAYED TO STUDY
you think that exists here? your standards for comparing are simply non-realistic.
(not only you get payed to study, but your cds cost 4 times less.... Again I ask.. would you buy as many cds if they costed 60 euro each?) |

it would exist there if you had as big taxes on everything, but you don't so there the rich are fookin' rich and the poor and fookin poor. here pretty much everyone is in the middle..

You don't get it do you? In comparison you have probably way way more money than I do. Ofcourse if I came there I'd be pretty rich, but here I'm uber poor..
Which will ofcourse change in the very very distant future once I actually finnish my studies and find a real job "The dinosaurs became extinct because they didn't have a space program."
