The other day I was chatting with a friend of mine,she´s argentinian and I was explaining to her that Transient bites the dust,and soon other labels...she said "That´s terrible...nobody buys music anymore???" I replied "Do you buy any???"
"Well...I can´t I live in the thirld world"
I had a nasty episode with an argentinian website about 2 years ago about the same topic,basically I was not friendly with the "DJ´S" from there coz they all play with MP3,and I said to them bunch of pirates.
Anyway my point is,what´s your excuse to don´t buy anything???
You need to feed the cat???
You can´t afford it???
Why not is for free???
I´m just curious.
PS:I still insist...MP3 DJ´S ARE NOT DJ´S!!!

Um I only buy original I have never downloaded mp3's in my entire 25 years of life and so far have forked out a good $5,000US on cd's, $3,500US on Goa and Psy trance... I have plent of friends and girlfriend who download mp3, but that is there choice, not mine to make for them  I don;t care if others do it, I don't and I am happy I know that nothing is ever truly free so I can RIP that I have paid my dues for my enjoyment |

I buy cd's all the time, but I do have some unreleased tracks that of course I did not pay for. How can I pay for them? There are thousands of great unreleased tracks out there. What is wrong with trading them amongst friends? How else will anyone hear them? |

heh, I have several hundred slabs of psy vinyl sitting in my basement and at least as many original CDs. And yes, most of those I never touch anymore because while they may have sounded okay back then, they aren't all that good.
Now I will buy solid releases, like, say, the Talpa album or the Timecode comps. But I refuse to pay for compilations or albums that have only one or two good tracks on them (vast, vast majority of all psy releases). I'd rather download them and only keep the good tracks instead of wasting thousands of dollars and landfill space. 
btw, if there was an option of downloading those tracks for a dollar or two, I'd gladly do that. but sadly, there isn't.

For some reason i believe that the amount of honest people that will answer to that question will be very little. The only ones that will answer are people who want to show off how many original cd's they have and ppl that just want to turn it into a flame war.
Where i live,Israel that is, the only excuse that can be, is the lack of international credit card. Because 90% of the cd's that are being sold here are local, Israeli ones, are hardly my cup of tea. But the problem was solved once i obtained an international credit card. About 2 years ago. Before that i had to settle for local output (IM, Astral Projection, Space Cat and more), and download everything that is not Israeli. There were very few foreign labels that are being sold in Israel and when they are, the price is ridiculously high. Some weeks ago i've seen Shpongle album for 99 Shekels which is approx 20$. That's 7$ more than the Israeli cd's or what i'd pay in the online shops.

but u cant buy this music..
i got it from artist friendz and i think only releses dj is boring cause i heard all this b4 and i want some surprize..
reminder - how much dj's realy had "Gow" old trax not on mp3?
i heard each one of them played 10 times in parties!
the unr ones.. so they all wasnt dj for u?.. oki..
it was the best untill the cd is out.. and guess what - now i can play from the cd but never would miss the old vibe which no one can get!
yes i bought it but also love older stuff never realesed!
so i guess i dought ur topic in real dj terms..

well Tsab, but you can't blame the ones got mp3 of the old GOW cause they havn't been released anywhere so if you don't know them personally you can't get the wav.
and Pavel i don't think you right, Krembo gets always the newest cd's, even if they bring them only few weeks after it has been released they have everything.
And for the subject of buying cds. i got lots of originals, old one most of them, cause today there is almost no albums worth buying, but if there are, today there is an advantage in the illigal downloads in the net. In the past if you wanted to buy an album, even if you think you like it, you couldn't listen to it first (not to all of it maybe only the demos in sites but you can't know if its good by the demos), now, the way i do, if i want to buy some album, i'll download it first, its the only way to know if you like it or not, you can't come to ppl and demend them to only buy albums without listen to them first, even if it depends if you download it or not.
But i also think that if you like some artist you defenatly need to buy his albums to show some respect and to know that you care about him. Ppl who only download mp3 (or even worst playing only mp3) they don't deserve listen to music (aspecially come to their artists in parties which they like).

suomi guy, you are right, Krembo is the only shop i know that keeps bringing new releases from abroad. But i don't visit them much, and prefer to order online, that way i actually save money and time. It's usually 25~30 shekels cheaper. And when i order more than 1 CD, which is something that i always do, i actually save money.
And got to agree with you here:
Ppl who only download mp3 (or even worst playing only mp3) they don't deserve listen to music (aspecially come to their artists in parties which they like).

I try to buy 2-3 cds a month, its not expensive here in england, its like having 4 pints of beer down the pub, so I can always cut down on those extra beers and buy something nice.
IMO when you buy an album you appriciate the music much more then when you download mp3, even burning cdrs are not the same as having the original cd.
Also their is a load of experimental stuff their, and they are as cheap as chips... quality chips
