What's up with that raw unpolished kickdrum in Goatrance?

I'm sure most will not agree with me, but I think the standard Goatrance kick is just ugly.
I just can't get over it, and it was initially the reason why I never listened to Goatrance before, because I couldn't stand the high pitched 909 kick.
Oonk oonk 0oonk!
It seems as if no one really cared that much.
A kick is a kick, right?
There are even loads of tracks where there's hardly any low frequencies in the kicks.
Of course if we listen to some older tracks, we think of the good old day, with that 'charming' 909 kick.
But stil....

I like all music raw sounding. It is supposed to be organic and tribal sounding. Love the typical goa kicks and 909's. If I wanted over produced perfectionist crapola I'd listen to pop music.
I hate you, you hate me, we are all so hap hap happy!

this is also depended on the capabilities and experience of the artist as an engineer too imho, i mean that when messing with mixing you take care of frequencies, the balance between elements onside the track, an artists who, except being good as a musician and songwriter, has the ability and good ear or trained and experienced ear can mix every kind of sound perfectly or with the best possible results or produce a track from beginning based on the frequncies of the elements, Simon Posford is a great example of warm and great balanced production with all these old skool kicks as well as other artists of this league. Others are more music talents and had not develop so good techniques in mixing therefore some oldies might sound more poor i would say, still a great musical idea and compose.
And again we are so much used nowdays to listen to so clean sounds that this old sound might not fulfill the 2010 tastes though still adorable and the base for what now exists

same here man, exact same reason...I just can't get over it..
what bothers me even more is that there's some of this newer Goa made in the last couple of years that has that exact same kick. The production quality has gone up but for some reason producers still use it...I dunno, makes no sense to me

and to produce oldschool goa trance in the year 2009 makes sense??
i guess some people like to go backward instead of forward
its a matter of taste and also some kind of ""fashion"" in the last few years

um, no...that was my point in the first post...that I don't understand why producers use the same kicks from 92 in 08/09...use whatever ideas you want but the production quality can go up if you want it to

i can relate to what djones is talking about. the melodies in goa trance are really beautiful but the kicks are something that i cant get passed. but to each his own - im the last one to go out and tell artists how to make their music. but for those ppl looking for music which has a touch of some goa trance but with clean production value - you should check out releases from glowing flame and northern psylight records. acts like trold, braincell, rastaliens, yudhisthira, paramatma - really nice stuff .

some of that 2008 extra "polished" solid kicks mixed in rediculus high volumes and there is no room for "story"... it only makes the first "wow what sound quality" effect but you dont even listen to the track in depth as it used to be..
it comes along with the "i want to kill a baby" endless breaks introduced around 200-4 , somewhere along the way it feels like "contest" on sound quality and "dancefloor killah" rather then bunch of guys having fun making beautifull music.
small link i found just now on tube and seems related to the subject
