What's up with DETROIT??

After 5 years of dancing in San Francisco and loving the amazing psy-family, my partner and I decided to ride our bikes out to Detroit to help with the renegade urban planning occurring there. I had first heard about the Fireweed project via Basilisk and the Ektoplazm website. It looked to good to be true. Detroit was the wild mid-west and we could be neo-pioneers and stake a claim the co-creation of a catalyst for global change... We're about 400 miles away right now in southern Wisconsin and I was wondering if anyone is interested in Psytrance in Detroit?? Our roommate in SF, Chris Stark, said that Detroiters made the trek to Iowa for his MINDOUTPSYDE events or head to Chilluminati in WI. We are going to be living in Detroit for a while and if critical mass can be achieved would like to help manifest a Michigan Psy-festival with the proceeds if any going towards the building of self-sustainable, environmentally sound, non-hierarchical, anarcho-communist community.

hm, dilapidated houses are going for $50. I wonder how much empty lots are going for?
You could probably make some cash by buying a fucked up house, knocking it down and then selling the empty lot |

Yeah, flipping realty in a ghetto would be super New Age and anarcho-communist of them. 
Seriously, though. Detroit is the birth place of techno (ah, shut up with that Germany already!  ). Derrick May organizes an electronic music festival there every year (and I am sure he knows of scenes other than techno). Detroit also has a strong Goth and industrial following going all the way to the '80s. Those would be hanging out in downtown clubs called Shelter and City Club. Some of the Goth kids may be into psy trance as well. Unfortunately, I haven't been there in over 10 years, so can not tell you more.
Good luck with your initiative. I've read Basilisk's article too - it's remarkable. But, as Nasr-ud-Din would say: "Trust in God but tie your donkey". Beautiful ideas are great - but get your concealed carry permit too. |

as a born and bred michigander (currently nomadic) i am super happy that there are beings out there who are planting the psychedelic seeds in my home state!! i dream of the day that i get to bring my brothers to a psytrance party while i'm back in the midwest visiting my family. i know a bunch people in the grand rapids area who would definitely be interested in coming to, if not organizing, parties. keep up the good work comrades! |
