hi all,

i've got some practice with synths and samplers now and the sounds and beats are ok now ... for me . but i'm stuck with that background percussion? there are a lot of nice background percussions out there but i cannot accomplish that often nice driven rythems. so what do you use for that? lo-fi loops and play them backwards?
i tried it (manually) with snares, hats, congas ... but no satisfying result up to now

so has anyone some tips for me?

I try to program as many perc sounds manually as I can. Just take one shot samples and create grovey patterns with them. And I like it, it's real fun. But then if I find the result unsatisfying I take a loop (doesn't really matter is it lofi, house or d'n'b - it just has to sound right) and process it to fit the track: cut unnecessary elements, reverse, filter etc. I guess you just need more practise.

i make some breaks with lot of distortion (few quadrafuzz in serie and/or the amp plugin in c5) then export with no kick slice and edit... for breaks usually you pitch drums in the low and not in the high like in dance/trance music, i end up with dark breaks that don t eat the space for the trance hihats

if you want it really in the background, take out the highend !           http://soundcloud.com/seamoon

don't forget to give a bit of a shuffle or groove quantization on your programmed parts... with that you can often disregard premade loops.           soundcloud.com/epsylohm

why opposit?

take out both, the lows and the highs, that's what i do.

sounds in the background don't have much highend as opposite to sounds in the foreground.

cutting the low and high and maybe addind some room reverb and some clever panning will do the job if the material is ok in the first place!           http://www.landmark-recordings.com/

i use reverb but needs to a little of this! the percucion that i use needs tobe in mono, and use a high pass filter.!and could be anothers audio efx. likedistortion. trying not to distroy the origin of percucion..because could be sounds like techno!!
