Fuck, we don't need the whole Next Big Thing going on here.

And that's exactly why psy-trance is loosing audience and have been stuck at the same spot for the last 5years.
Every musical style needs fresh innovating stuff the, "Next Big Thing" like you say, it's what's make music go forward.

What I meant by "The Next Big Thing" is that is is a commercial marketing tool and toy, just a gimmick to sell more records and to pass off a trendy thing to the fan base.
I know this from long experience working in the underground scene and being one of the people who was responsible for creating all the artificial hype around the NBT.
If it is a next big thing that comes from a movement and progression in the scene, then it usually is great for the music and the overall community.
But with the recent trends I am seeing Sony getting into more and more of the psy and underground dance scenes. People laugh when I say that, but I was working for a company that had been bought out by Sony/BMG up until last year when I quit out of frustration with the plans they were trying to make about psy and the psychedelic culture.
That's what I mean when I say that we don't need this happening to the psy scene. It would kill the scene and make it a commecial product that you could go into any club in the world and see the people feeding off of.
I know this because that is exactly the plan I was shown and was actually going to be a part of as a marketing and promotional rep.

I am very interested to know more about this plan that it was shown to you
Who shown you this plan?
just curious because in some countries the authorities want to vanish this music and the commercial music providers do not give a fk about it!not invest on it and make it popular....

I'm still under a non-disclosure and non-compete contract that I signed so I can't get too specific with the names of some of the companies I worked with and had contracts to promote.
But the plan we were shown was to market the "hippie" and "psychedelic" lifestyle to a young and "hip" audience and to market the psytrance sounds to a broader audience that listens to more commercial trance and techno.
Some of the people with Sony and the related record labels have noticed the growing festival crowds and especially the growth of the dark psy scene.
I actually can say I am guilty of being one of the ones that discussed it with some very high profile music reps, not even thinking that they were actually serious about trying to commercially market the whole psychedelic experience and lifestyle.
That was last year in the middle of 2007, so I don't know how much they have actually followed through on it, but a close friend tells me that they are trying to start up some festivals and promote some clubs and other areas of the scene.
I know for a fact that they are trying to get involved with the Japanese scene a lot more because they have noticed how big the parties are getting and how many of them are now going on.
Same thing with Europe and other places. They have noticed how many psy parties and events are going on Germany and Israel and many other places that had no scene or a small one just a few years ago.
They are more focused on the progressive and full on sounds because they are more commercial sounding and easier to cross over, but there was a huge interest in promoting some of the dark psy to the goth and industrial and metal crowds.

I know what you meant man, it's just that music moves with trends, it's the way it is and the way it will always be that's all.

Dont believe psy trance is loosing audience, I think more people than ever listen to this music, much because of P2P, but possible that less people take part of the scene active, like going to party's etc.

Not the first time Sony and the big Record company's is trying to make money out of this music, at about 97 after "LSD" did hit the charts, but that attempt was a failure, much because they did put out CD´s that was really bad and they didn´t understand the culture and only thought it was some easy buck.
