What's a good way to speed up a song with minimal artifacts?
I guess I'm looking for a plugin or something that is just great at speeding up or slowing down audio with minimal artifacts. Anyone know of any?
Cubase's speed up and slow down functions are nice, but for more drastic changes in tempo, I need something that will leave me with a cleaner end result.

Ableton. It's timestretching is awesome. Repitch algorithm for vinyl-style pitch-changes-with-tempo, or complex for keep the same key while changing speed.
Also, if you want a tape-stop style effect you can load the audio into a sampler and automate the pitch bend.

Using Complex or Complex Pro (still can't see the difference) on everything is the safest bet if you don't want to look into it deeper. But it's a lazy way which more often than not yields suboptimal results. Complex or Complex pro are good on melodic stuff but it will dull your percussion. You should use different modes on different instruments, then mix.
Of course, if you're stretching/shrinking an entire mixed/mastered song (from a CD track, for example), there is no choice and Complex Pro is your best way.
Mandari (I think) had a long post about a year ago explaining it in detail. |

colin what am i missing here? i just can't get it to sound right to my ears.
i took eacht rack to soundforge and cut the intros started each tune smack sample acurate on the 1beat. took to abelton it now recognizes correct bpm and puts just one warp marker. adjusted the marker to spot on the start of my clip.
still grains and slugs at times.
what am i doing wrong?

We use 2 laptops on stage, both running Ableton. On Rama's laptop we have the playback aspect of the performance, with a pre-prepared arrangement of tracks which we make especially for each gig (often right before we play). Rama also uses Live to add FX and samples, and also routes his Kaoscillator and Monotron through an FX chain in Live. On stage I use Live purely as a VST host and FX processor for my Nord Modular, which acts as both synth and MIDI controller, depending on which patches I have selected.
As far as I can remember, the 2007 OOOD gig was just a DJ set, and I think around that time, Rama was experimenting with DJing from Live.
