thanks for the tips in the ratio it makes a lot of sense...so the important thing s what effect u want to get out of it..not realy whats right or wrong..
if u can get pump effects or not
what bout the trreshold ? can u talk a little bout the treshold ?

same there, depends what you want and the speed of the track also, there aren't any basic rules for compressors really, it all depends what you looking for as result.

Threshold causes the pumping effect so yeah the higher the more etreme the SC.

Um... that's backward. A 'higher' threshold (ie. closer to 0dB) means that there will be less gain reduction and it will happen later (unless the triggering sound has a literally instantaneous attack); setting the threshold at its maximum value of 0dB will mean there is no gain reduction taking place at all. Making the threshold lower will the gain reduction happen earlier and for longer, resulting in a more obvious pumping effect.

i experimented all night with multiband compression and sidechaining ,have to give a other try with fresh ears to be sure i was not hallucinating , but i think it can work amazing... sidechaining the lowest band to the kick can really pump nicely on a bassline , while tweaking the mids to really groove with different timing.
i guess it can make lot of phase problem with these crossover + different compression amount and timing on bands but if it sound good..
on the topic you can use any ratio you want..i often find 2 is not enought to get a "clear" pumping , i use around 4 to 6 with a hard knee usually for kick/bass but everything can work, depend the tracks, the effect wanted... |

check the net if you want the technical detailed aspect, it s the compression curve around the treshold value , hard knee mean it will compress as soon as the signal pass the treshold value, while a softer knee will compress even before but gradually .
softer knee can be more natural and musical and can be less punchy and obvious on some sources ,that obvious effect is what we want on many source it s not a bad thing it depend the effect wanted , when you have a knee setting it can be usefull for fine tuning. |

if you want a very transparent compression for some pads for example a softer knee and rms detection might be usefull for example... so it start compressing gradually with the soft knee and the rms detetection don t make the compssor react to small peaks as much as peak detection ,but everyhting can work ...
not sidechain related but some good tricks is to use dual mono insteed of linked compressor on track where it dont make phase or other problems , you will gain a litttle bit more open and 3d sound, best is even to split stereo track into dual mono and process left and right with slighty different setting , but just a very little to mimic analog compressors... if you want it more obvious and really open more the sound or go creative it can work great too.... it offer more control on the mix, same with eq ,saturator... just exeperimenting with this you can get a way more 3d mix with better mono translation if you tweak carrefully , checking in mono
