A good psytrance party touches on many different styles over the course of the evening. There is no real journey when you have an all-darkpsy line-up or nothing but electro-prog. I'd like to hear some downtempo and experimental to warm things up until midnight, some deep progressive and mechanical techtrance thereafter, some true night music later on, and real morning trance when it comes time to greet the sun. Diverse sounds, quality track selection, technical excellence in mixing, and a cohesive and sensible flow--these are the elements of a great musical experience.

I like to have a combination of some progressive psy, and some dark and twisted stuff. I think a good progressive psy dj can come out of "darker" sounds well. I think it's important to have a chill area as well. It's nice to have somewhere to go other than your tent when you want to just rest and chit chat. However I think the whole "dark psy" can't be played in the morning is BS. I have seen it done numerous times and it has worked most of the time.
So to answer your question I guess downtempo, progressive, levels of darker and twisted stuff.

More constructively -
In addition to plentiful amount of international artist new york gets...
New York needs more domestic artist performances.

During the most intense psychedelic part of the evening... I enjoy a switch to polka music, David Hassellhoff or something equally bizarre.... YOU KNOW YOU LOVE IT! jajaja |

I would really really like to go to a party and hear just goa trance. Like 24 hours of only goa trance - all styles within goa trance (old and new stuff), I really think it would be amazing. I heard in Europe they have pure goa parties, do any happen in the us?

I'm pretty open minded on this front...
When it comes to psy parties, let's say I was planning my own party; this is how it would probably go:
Early Evening-10PM - Various forms of prog, psy-tech, etc., moving steadily up in BPM until we have some nice electro proggy psy tech going on 10ish.
10PM-2AM - Night Full-On - Night Psychedelia - Light Dark
2AM-5AM - Heavy Night - Dark Progressive - Glitch - DarkOn
At this point I can see a good party taking two directions. As something I've never really experienced at a party, it might be nice to have the BPM's go down, and give the party folk a break in the morning. So, you could either go the traditional route into morning full on from here, or drop some prog for a few hours so...
5AM-7AM - Happy Progressive - Electro - Psytech - Chillout
7AM-12PM - Morning Melodic Euphoric Morning Full On Goodness!!!!1
or
5AM-11AM - Morning Melodic Euphoric Morning Full On Goodness!!!!1
THEN
11AM or 12PM - Early Evening/Late Afternoon - Progressive - Chillout - Tech - Psy Dub - Shpongle
I may be organizing a multi genre electronica party down the line, and at this one I intend on changing up the usual conventions on genre mixing and flow... I think it should be a good experience, something like this...
Tech/Psytech/Electrotech
to
Electro House/Tech House/Prog Psy
to
Prog Psytrance/Progressive Trance
to
Full-On Melodic Psytrance
to
Night Psytrance/Dark Psytrance
to
Tech/Progressive/Chillout http://www.soundcloud.com/djKAHN |

I think it depends on where you are. The midwest likes to get dark real early and doesn't have much prog so I'd say somethin like this:
8-11 prog to full-on
11-4 dark
4-6 twilight/high energy full-on
6-10 morning
10-whenever daytime full-on

see I feel that 4 am is too early to start going lighter, I am ususally not ready until about at least 5 or 6 to start hearing light music. cuz it's like we listen to full on from 8-12 (4 hours), then from 12-5 dark if that (5 hours) then from 5-12? let's say (7 hours) more full on/prog now that does not seem very fair to the dark lovers. 11 hours vs 5 hrs :-( haha |

all kinds.
not too much monotony.
frequently oscillating basslines.
lots of samples. (short ones)
morning has to be packed melodic.

Wow I'm surprised how many of you are ready to start and finish the dancing so early. Ideally sunrise should be the climax of a party that keeps going through the early afternoon. Now in an outdoor party the music is more dependent on the relative darkness/lightness than actual clock time and if you're going for a festival I think that too can affect the lineup.
Also ideally there should be a main dancefloor and a chillout area.
Afternoon, sunset, through early evening chillout only
around 9pm start up the main stage but from 9-12 is a good block to bring in something different maybe electro, maybe really trippy house, psytech whatever you want that has a dancing groove and warms people up a bit; chillout in the chillout
11-12 good time to work into some good night time music
by 1-2 am you should be well on your way to some twisted dark, hard psytrance can also work; the chillout area can pick up a beat around this time as well maybe with some prog/electro elements
keep it dark until first light, then move into twilight and/or scandinavian; bring the chillout back to ambient
sunrise: full-on with really spot-on lyrics and a few ambient breaks
keep it full on until early afternoon
then move into some lazy afternoon progressive
If you're doing a second night, the next morning should feel a bit more proggy before everyone goes home.
