honestly the problem always is that people are always spent by 4-5am of hard dancing then and never have the same kind of energy as they did before..
people tend to get tired right about there and wander out or start chilling and talking to other people ..and that may be the reason why lots of djs play dark music because that way they get to play during those prime slots..
very few gatherings like AUM are exceptions to this rule..but they are rare.. the dancefloor at AUM just kept on going till about 10 am on many times..I love when that happens..
Balance is important in life to me in every aspect..no one aspect should skew it.

Amen! balance is key, and keepin the cycle of dark to light is key to not scare away those less infatuated with more 'tweaky' styles of Psytrance!
I see this happening more and more in the Midwest, something crazy is happening here, and to be COMPLETELY honest, EARTHDANCE 2007 Rivaled AUM in terms of dancefloor stomp magnitude / intensity IMO. definitely glad that such powerful events are happening so close to my home of Psyowa!

balance of all genres is key, however keeping it non-cheesy is necessary in my book... unless its like 10am and im starting to wind down... otherwise a good balance of intricate, unique, intelligent psy is what should be present.
In other words, I can totally understand why gms/astral/infected/skazi parties are separate from the intelligent stuff, but when it comes to separating power and twilight/morning from dark parties it makes completely no sense to me. sometimes I think that when its dark for the whole party people are going way out of their way to prove some unnecessary point. as long as its nasty and original and doesnt remind me of the disco pop mtv world, i tend to get way involved |

Ideal party:
late evening: something I've always struggled with. I'm increasingly leaning towards minimal dark prog, techy psytrance, or psychedelic breakbeat (of the Kilowatts variety, not mood deluxe, etc.) Basically something groovy, but not euphoric or world music influenced.
Night: Something like Penta, leading into something like psykovsky/osom/gappeq, leading into something like CPC/Samadhi/Ghreg on Earth.
Dawn: Power with melodic aspects: Para Halu/Electrypnose/Kdd. Unforunately, none of these artists would fit well after Ghreg. Whatever, making a lineup is hard.
Mid morning: something funky, preferably Neuron Compost.
Late morning/afternoon: crunchy prog, preferably dj Anti.
after that: chillout/break from music
As far late morning/afternoon dancefloors go, I think the key is to just have a huge party, so there are lots of ppl that didn't dance throughout the night, causing a second wave in the morning, or just have a small party with serious freaks. I generally haven't noticed a correlation with music as far as parties I've seen with good dancefloors after the night.

aphex twin - squarepusher tag team chill out dinnertime.
terbo ted - post dinnertime twilight...
ritual...
followed by some kind of killer sonic build-up
into trance music...
something easy to dance to... everyone is all coming from different places, different vibrations... something kind of slow and steady...bringing in elements, as with each one, bring another trippy person to the dancefloor...
onced everyones tooned,
music for connecting all the freaks to all the info and all of that... internally healing, getting out the demons, and capital P partying, till just as dawn starts...
like, ghreg on earth... brain lizzard, deeper in zen, or a penta nite time set...
and then some sick toons to bring everyone together at dawn.....
perhaps like a quasar ocelot freaks of nature kind of thing...with a 10 am secret society set...
and then just have some slamming daytime music till tea time... a la
monks of madness, mubali, facehead...
with stephen kent playing the closing set...

mm... neo-trance is maybe not such a bad name for it, it's a pretty accurate description -- but the term could have pigeonholed the sound.... fortunately, the name didn't catch on and we are still calling it techno

ya know i wrote a long description but i think my prescription is more vague its like hatching and egg. I feel that you should be breifed by the opening acts and lead closer to what is in store for you building to the point where you almost cant handle the anticipation. then freak you out to where you almost cant handle the wierdness your brain is trying to comprihend then make the crowd fry like bacon to the point where you body almost cant take it and your brain is trying to unravel a sweater but theres someone on the other side that just keep knitting and knitting and knitting and knitting and knitting and knitting then after youve blown up the morning acts will be your psychotherapy talking you back down assuring you that everything is alright then reward yourself with beauty in the afternoon for making it through the previous nights thrashing

I think that P.S.I. has the "formula" down
the piney parties are the best series of gatherings i know of.
start the night with some prog or minimal-psy
move on to full on,
gets a bit dark and twisted for a bit
then arount 5 or 6am some morning trance comes in
then into some chuggin sunshine progressive!
FLOW!!! I haven't attended to many parties that follow any flow, having dark artists in the day and fluffy shit during the few dark hours.
but then again... i may be way off. what do i know?
