You must admit, Infected Mushroom sounds unique. I can never put my finger on it but I have always been able to tell IM tracks from any other psytrance stuff I've heard. Does anyone agree?

The only thing I can point to is their lack of repetition (they rarely repeat the exact same thing more than once) and complex melody (thanks to Erez). Can anyone point to something they do to allow this distinction?

Not sure if I have anything else to say, I was just wondering what everyone thinks on the subject. Anyone NOT an Infected Mushroom fan?

IM not longer psytrance, they are more of psy rock band now, that being said their music doesnt sucks too much.

What make their trance albums stand out? some kind of frenzy, twicked vibe, in your face music.

Now they just try to become the next linkin park           "The dedication to repetition — the search for nirvana in a single held tone or an endlessly cycling rhythm — is one of electronic music's noblest gestures."

yeah, sometimes even with their hihat-lines... that have something infected mushroom 'bout it.

i used to listen to their psychotunes, lost track long ago.. i personally think their new shit sucks ...

but i heard a newer trancy track by them which indeed has that same infected mushroom sound to it... only thing that does is remind me of when i liked their music more..

Ok, of course I am not talking about their new stuff. I like a lot of stuff from their new album but it is certainly not what I listen to when I want to hear psytrance.

I am talking about their old stuff: converting vegetarians, classical mushrom, etc. Their new stuff is beside the point here.

thats what i was about to say           ..deep beneath the rolling waves in labyrinths of coral caves an echo of a distant time comes willowing across the sand..
..short magic moment of the dusk and down shadows, just wake your deeper feeling of beauty. So, keep it longer!..

Personally speaking, I never liked IM. Their music never touched me. The were/are (depending on how much someone likes their new stuff) talented, but their music was simply too much. Like they wanted to show that they can play so many notes and melodies, back in the day when melodies was the "meat" of things that set you apart from the rest, as all the mad audio mangling and vocals, are supposed to be, today.
It all seemed like a massive show off to me, from day one.

I just found them cheesy and in a bad way, cause I did like some cheesy tunes back then.
Nothing, there is not one tune I really got into, yet I appreciate their skills as musicians and producers and the impact (negative imho, but that is not their fault) they have had on the scene, yet I do respect that they did what they liked and succeeded greatly in it.

They did make psy-trance, but the kind of psy-trance I never liked. Horses for courses and all that, but always, their style was never deep, everything was chewed up and ready for the listener to digest.

Their last LP, for example, has absolutely nothing to do with psychedelia. Granted psychedelia is very subjective, but I can't stop but laugh when people remotely relate, Shawarma with psy-trance.
But its not for me to decide. If people are happy listening to that kind of music, so be it.

in my honest opinion, IM are musicians first and then we can sit and categorize their music into genres and sub genres later.

Brilliant skills, technique, production and the like... very versatile and above all revolutionary.... although most of their tunes are non psy, they did put psy in the limelight. hats off to them for doing so

they are not scared to experiment irrespective of what people say.

whatever they produce, has a charm of its own for its own fan base.... be it psytrance, psy rock, experimental, dub, break beat, vocal trance, pop, down tempo, reggae, triphop......

Thats the key to their success i.e. catering to the masses. This also shows us that they have talent and are MUSICIANS first...... everything else afterwards...

Again, this is my opinion.... you guys dont have to agree with me on it

I think that Infected Mushroom have mor wisdom about production and tricks than the essence of this whole webside.
They sound like no other,do what they won't -constantly - and are very varsatile creative - allways changing.
I have my big oldskool psy vinyls of them still in good condition.
It is inspiring to listen to their works.Espesialy since they sound and are different. And they make good interviews seems to be kool personalities.Personaly I doubt that Halucingoen who does not exist for more than a decade is a better producer - only as an example.
And they understand really deep music theory ,apart from they unique sound design.I do not like their singing, but I do like that they do not give a fuck about the usual hating going on in the psytrance scene and keep it what they personaly like.
