Good bass notes and patterns. Variation.
Low bass line + 1 or 2 mid bass lines layered...
Good supersaws, hardware generated.
Good EQ, good mastering.
The formula for THE bass (imo).
What about Neelix and progressive productions?
In your face, clean, perfect sounds. All in place.

Indeed the after version is also a mastered one, so have a listen to the non mixed - mixed example.

not as boring as doing paperwork, or washing dishes, or cleaning your cat.
sometimes you have to do the boring things to get the right result.

what makes a real pro bass?
good synth or softsynth, eq with good settings and... quadrafuzz ;P hehe
It's just a bass. in most cases it's just simple saw (303 style) + eq.
You really dont need a 10 layers, 20 fx's and 100 years of experience
After ~1 year of hard work for make a "perfect psy-style bassline" I can say: "wow! it's easest that I can imagine. It's that simple! How I can't make it earlier?"
DNA bass is equaly like in Mike's Tutorial.
If You want experiment You can try to layer etc but its not necessary for make good bass, exactly like DNA and 90% of psy-trance artists

would be really welcome here! sounds like you are doing something to the phase of the left / right channel. some stereo imaging? apart from compression.

one tip: test Your bass in full arangement. with drums and synths.

and very important is making kick what match to Your bass.

the kick i use is usually self made. so it matches the key note of the bass. the kick is ok i guess. i´m maybe not perfect in eqing it later but it kicks quite fine.
and it´s mostly in full arrangement where you can notice best that the bass gets a little bit lost. just from its presence in the mix.
so i was wondering how big names do it. if it´s really a mastering job or if their mixdown sounds already that nice. |

hi around the globe!
i have another bassline related question... yeah... zzzZZZzzz... sorry!
i´m producing stuff now since 13 years. mostly smaller theatre and tv related works and... no i cannot live of it! (just telling this so you know i´m not a complete amateur or beginner)
also as my favorite music i´m producing some psy trance / full-on sounds just for my own fun, not releasing anything (so far ).
in my > 10 years conquest for the perfect ass-kicking-bassline i´ve reached a point where i can´t help myself anymore and all the tutorials i watched / read couldn´t satisfy my questions.
i hope that there are some people here with professional background that may be able to answer my questions.
i love that kind of pumping 16th bassline with no or just few note changes in it.
some of my favorite examples are works by dna, black&white, x-noize etc.
listen to tracks
dna - syntetic dna (phonokol)
black&white - geronimo (hom-mega)
so lets get to my question finally...
why are their basslines so earth shaking and so full of life and presence in the mix? and how are these artists able to archieve it in every darn song?
is it maybe done in the mastering process and before mastering they are just average as in so many other tracks?
for example the tutorial posted by mike a is pretty good and gives you some good overall basics you have to pay attention to, but still the superb creme on top is missing (no offense!).
i would really trade my virginity for a look into one of this pro works. from how the basic synth is worked out by the used effects...
thanks for reading and any help!

monitoring, you can try as long as you want in a bad room (that change the envelop of notes bassline sustain realese... ,have some notch and peak in the low...)you ll have a hard time to have things right and sound really pro even if you are good engineer (some archieve it offcourse but it s just not as easy )
if you can go in your garden just to mix things right and really hear the sound of your monitor it ll make things easier and , or with the help of good headphone maybe, dt 880 are ok but still mixing outside it s just so good.
then on the synth you really have to use one you like the sound of the oscillator or you ll never be really satisfied |

its all in the sensitive hearing(your ears)and tallent and knowing your gear....not in the room, not in the monitors...hallucinogen for example, he worked once in a room with big echo
try this
the best--trilogy(for every kind of bass line) without nothing on it
reaktor5crow bass lab + deafult eq
if you want astrix, domestic and whole hommega records bass line all u have to do is to put vb1 on cronox
p.s noting and velocity on notes is very importhant thing to do for good bass |

i don´t think it´s a monitoring issue. i know my babes... (and my accoustics)
and the garden is a nice idea but not practical because of equipment and neighbours.

i´m not sure if i understood that right...
vb1 and cronox are both synth, no?
so by "putting on" you mean layering? |

For clean bass Dont use Quadrafuzz!!! its fucking the sound!!
if you do use it - be carefull how you spiltt the bands cuz its really really important.
for good bass you need good mix as well so nothing interupt .
you need also the right kick with the right bass.
midi notes well adjusted, velocities & length.
