Hmm Lately i´ve tried top figure out what makes a track sound interessting allthough it appears quite monoton whithout any melodies.
What do you think ?
1.Is it the rytm,
2.The overall soundquality,
(we just all love that kick bass sound)
3.The dynamics ( variation trough volume, and velocity changes.
4.The synth effects
Would be nice to hear your opinions.

subtle changes and variations do magic, and a good arrangement.

i think you named most of them...
but like dtd says, and you can make movement on micro level...
when you got a few elements its important to make the most out of them...

but then a good question would be, if you add movement is it still monotone?

Slight changes in filter, changes that aren´t almost recognized, like rooting the lfo to the filter with a very low amount and low rate. This will give some variations to the sound, quite subtle almost unnoticable but it will make the sound less boring over time.

The rythms is also big part of it off course, also some velocity variations to make it feel more "real"

And also off couse the overall dynamics of the track are a big part of it...

mixer automation is also good to make the track breathe           roll a joint or STFU :)

on my opinio it's all together...
a track without one of those thing's will be ugly..           ================

its hard to say. you have to feel it, feel good rhytmics (!!), arrange well (!!). use nice sounds, prepared as good as you can. you need to mix track properly to get best soundings... lot of things... just for beginning you must feel proper sounds which will fit together with other, arrange them to fit all together...
thats what i think

Good Sources is one of the keys.
Imagine having a stunning bassline that fills all freq spectrum playing with a filter like subsix does.
Add a kick and balance them.
Wow,sounds full.
Rythm parts mixed next.
Then add a kick ass screaming lead sequence.
Best source sounds, good arrange, buss fx,proper mix and many years of exercise is the answer.

some loops get boring played too long.
and some loops get more interesting played longer.

a sound doesnt need to be repeated all the time.
if you play a sound once. it stays in the mind of the listener. every sound you use will stay in mind. if that wouldnt be true, a dj wouldnt be able to tell storys (i know that some of them are not able to do anyway, but this has different reasons:) )

speak less, say more. a lot of techno-producers know exactly how to do. go and listen some stuff there and try to import it into your production.

good question dude!

EDIT:
it is obviously that usual trancemusic today is very non-monothonic and getting more and more pop-like arranged. 1-2-3-4 break 2-4-8-16 break etc. pp.
only very rare producers like psynina for example release this structure and let it moving in a more straight line of mono-arrange which can create very interesting hypnotic effects. so listen to trance (besides of very rare or elmshorn-stuff) wont help here much for inspiration.

Listen to Midi Miliz/X-Dream/The Delta for inspiration of monotonic hypnotic tracks!
