I was in that question for 2 entire months, researching, trying...at final I Buy a dell i5, and when come home, the laptop don't power up at second time when I turn on...

I hate the "apple philosophy" but tired of searching compatible laptop for a firewire interface, I buy a new macbook pro...for my surprise, they dont work with my presonus firebox...a lot of pops, crackles..but works perfectly with a crappy m-audio fast track...no solutions for more 2 weeks researching...

I bought a USB native kontrol 1 interface, and waiting to arrive here...I hope the market of digital audio do something to avoid the big number of problems with compatibility between devices/systems/softwares...this kill the creative process...

my 02 cents...           www.psychowave.net

The thing to take into account is which audo interface will you be using? If your going firewire then you really need a laptop with "Texas instruments (TI)" fire chipset. Major problems with firewire if it's not, although there are exceptions.

Trouble is 99% of laptops made in the last 2 years or so are not TI. Even Apple have stopped using TI chips.

If your using USB then its less of a problem. Only sure way to know if a laptop is good for pro audio is to test it with your own hardware/software set up for latency issues etc. Laptop makers change their components all the time, so different batches of the same model may have a different insides.

If your going pc then there is some custom laptop makers such as ADK who definitely use TI chips, although they will be more expensive then off the shelf machines

thanks, very good tip. I see a i5 one with FW (LIFEBOOK NH570) for 1000 euro, still pricy but kind of ok.
