imo spend ~$900 on an ASUS or another computer that is known to run OSX well and hackintosh that shit. Spend the $1500 you save over buying an actual mac on a cool MIDI controller and still have probably $1000+ left over. Could also invest in a SSD drive for super fastness

with macbook pro you know they work at least ok as daw and are not noisy ,with pc you never really know how it will handle firewire ,usb for sound interface and perforamnce for audio and they often are very noisy, like they gonna take off from the desk when the fans are on. a friend have a i7 asus with 4 cores in his laptop with win7 tweaked for audio and i think my mbp can handle heavier project more smoothly from what he say to me... so you never know with pc laptops how good they are as daw, it s the surpise when you get it. (don t want to mean the mac are better i love my pc )
now there is the os, if you like osx or not..

The components in a mac are by and large the exact same components as are in a PC. The only difference is the metal shell and the OS that comes pre-installed on the hardware. oh and the huge markup

The major advantage that I see for Apple in regards to music production is that if you don't mind paying an exorbitant price, everything will just work for you out of the box and you can focus more on music and less on the computer.

However, for those of us who have been mucking about with computers for a bit the effort required to install OSX on a PC is staggeringly small compared to the amount of money you save by doing so - and once the process is complete you can get back to the music

exaclty ,hackintosh it s still the pc experience and not the mac one where you buy your mac you plug your interface and make music ,that + the confort of use and the object justify the price difference for me, no noise(most of the time i just hear the harddrive), the screen is great, it look great, it run smoothly...

a other advantage is that if a audio interface work on a mac it will work on all of them, on pc you never know except if you find someone with the same set up, hardware and software.

if money is not a issue i would go mac for a daw without thinking twice and i m more than 10 years pc users.. i still use pc for games ,internet...

Why would you pay for 8 gig when most computers can't utilize that amount properly?

4 gig is plenty for anything, spend the savings on other goodness!           I hate you, you hate me, we are all so hap hap happy!

Why not, 8 gb is not probably not that expensive anymore, i got 4 gb for $50 for my macbook, and that was almost a year ago.

You would probably get yourself a macbook pro with 4 gig ram there, it usually is plenty as Venom says.
And ofc u get Logic and as far as i know, Ableton, so why not?

Also, orgytime is right bout the live thing, Bizzare contact and DNA uses Macbooks, so i guess thats what they run.
And if you were to regret you can always run Windows 7 or something through bootcamp.

because for most people they just work the halo of the mac is not entirely polished by fanboys but by real people who use them everyday to get their jobs done (those that dont want to deal with settings too much) sure it´s fun to tinker around and tweak stuff, but you will tire of this after some years and enjoy the comfort level of troublefree operation. The markup on an Apple computer is not for the hardware. The way i see it i pay that much for a solid operating system with low level optimisations for audio and video plus a computer which is heavily integrated with said operating system. It´s all a matter of temperament and how much you need stability and app interoperability i guess.           Mastering available here:
