sup children of the cosmos ,ah a question..
what are logic audio users using for kiks?
ive been trying to work on my kiks,
ive tryed using the Waldorf attack
so i can actually edit the 'attack and release'
the kik on one of my tracks is pumping but
on the monitors and not in the headphones
(my best way to describe it ...also waldorf is on like say -audioinst-track1-)its a bitch though cause when I add more vst's ,even just 2 more vst's the cpu gets eaten up.
(500mhz,WINXP pro, 384mb of ram -
M-audio OMNI studio -delta 66)I can just record audio in from my Cs6x
but then i dont get to play with cool vst's.
in KONTAKT:
i open a kik sample in the program and i still
have control but can't get the kik sounding good without it peaking.
iv'e been playing with a 3 band EQ from within Kontakt and a compressor.(on at the same time)
Do you think 3 band eq and a compressor on the sound is to much?(cause i' jumping back and forth trying to make the kik good but not peak) should i just add a compressor?
the kik sample by itself sounds cool when i preview.but when i go into the matrix editor and add the "notes" (basic 4/4) the sound is lower and i just have to boost it somehow.
(hope im making sense)so i add the 3 band EQ,but the kik isnt feeling like a kik.so i add a compressor/then it starts peaking,
im just trying to get a good kik down that stands out and has presence.
this is my area im having issues at lately...
check out what i mean in my tracks.,.

===do i open an EQ from logic?
im trying not to open to many plugins
and mainly concentrate
on working with the kik from within the program...maybe someone has a cool trick?
well thanks guys ...peace.

I open EQ on every Logic channel by default.
and for kicks, I use ready samples, because there are 1000 of those out there, I don't think I'll come up wit anything better.

its impossible to advise on whether your EQ and compression is "too much", "wrong", or "not strong enough", since we dont know what settings they have... i dont think using EQ and compression on a kick is necessarily bad but with the right setup
if your kick lacks "presence" that probably means it lacks hi frequency content ... try a boost around 2k ... or try and find a second sample, with a decent hi-freq "edge" to it, to layer over your main shaking bassy kick. highpass the upper kick to avoid clashing. also dont be afraid to compress/limit kicks quite hard, even to the point of overdrive - i slightly overdrive my kicks all the time, makes em a bit fatter and the extra harmonics added by distortion increases presence too.

I need as much help with this as the next guy so maybe I can share also. I was going for some sound in Attack for a while, but I found Attack to be more fun when it comes to other types of percussion. I haven't figured out some of the filter sweeps in Attack... I'm just dumb tho-
I've been experimenting with Reaktor for my bass kick. The theory is:
Use 2 oscillators and one noise generator. Have the noise gen really quick attack-decay for the click. Take one of the oscs (experiment with waveforms) and route it through a band pass filter with high Q. Use a saw LFO to sweep the filter DOWN really fast to get the "doof doof" sound. too punchy at this point.
Route your final through a regular EQ and cut out the mids, leave some high around 2K and then cutoff the low @ 500-1K somewhere it sounds right.
Use the last oscillator to get the boom; You can route the final output through another fast ADSR to further control the sound.
Take the output into sound forge and select the first part of the sample and up the gain so it squares off; this will help get that pop/click more present in the sound since you'll be distorting the sound for a split second.
You can also use Reason's subtractor for this since it has adsr, 2 oscs, noise and filter sweeping.
Am I crazy or what? I have maybe one or two BK samples I actually like... |

awesome...bout time i get some awesome feedback...thanks guys.im reading alot of my
"users guide to Logic Audio 5 " i got at the book store...its pretty good!
i got some work to do
anyone have an idea on good buffer settings
in the preferences menu? for say a 500 mhz
machine with 384mb of RAM
this is my machine just for music..till i build my p4 box.
im just recording audio in from my synth and using basslines ,kiks, and soft synths like triangle 2 (yum)
but it craps out if i do anything ,that audio error message pops up ,i just hit enter and keep jamming..it gets bad and i just reboot
hehe trial and friking error sucks..hehe
alot to learn...
