in what? good in making music, good in marketing your self, good in earning money? these things dont have to go hand in hand...

It is obvious that if you are THAT good in music making, you don't need to do much to make yourself noted.
As far as earning money, my expectations are not high with the business of psy music production. ;-)
In the mainstream music biz, this things DO go hand in hand. At least it initiates a chain reaction.

Hey Cannabis!
my experience is that if you get/got the right connections you are more than half way to becoming the next star!
look at me im THAT good, but i dont want to be noticed haha
yeah if you make good marketing you often make the money, but not necessary cause to some extent the product need to be good aswell..

FreeFlow,
Good marketing and crappy product may work for a very short while. Like those one-week-MTV-hits, then lost in eternity.

One certainly would need at least couple of years to reach the mainstream level, once one would be well known than one could live on it by touring and performing, but what about before you get to that point??
|
|
mainstream level
dude its crap usualy , just throw arpegio over killer bassline still melody from the 80's or metal songs , and add some house loops. there u go.. new killer on the block.
dont forget to have "produced" sound hey.. most important even if its well produced silence i think it will be hit

Ok let's do a summary what it take to become THAT good:
1- The less you sleep the better your producing skills get.
2- Smoke a joint before you start working on you tunes,
and end it with a bong.
3- Take the tutorials to work a read them there, if you
want to save time, and if you boss allows it. (p.s. I 'd
like to get paid for reading music tutorials too But
don't smoke joint where you work.
4-Don't worry if your tunes are crap. Just find the right
conncetions. Kiss ass and you get the bookings and
releases.
5- Don't bother, if nobody wants your tunes, it's their
loss, and you'll die as a virgin hot chick.
6- It doesn't matter, if you don't get THAT good. You just
produce music for yourself. The path is important.
7- Don't even try to sell your music, coz someone is
lurking to download it off you.
8- Don't forget the joint. I can't emphasize enough.

The only things that would make you is practicing, and the only thing that will break you is not practicing.

respect!
though i work 11-18 everyday, and in production studio not factory, its very difficult to work on music after work. am able to make music for only 2-3 hours a day in the evening, and that's not productive at all (counting the number of ideas and projects...). after having all day working with sound, in the evening you can't hear a shit. i noticed it comparing how i feel music on holidays and weekends in the morning and any working day in the evening. brain must have a rest. thats why sleeping is very important. though one can spent more time making new leads and kick deep in night, he will see that whole workability is getting lower in time.
also i cant make music after a spliff. maybe that's a matter of my relation to the working process and drugs.

I'm kinda the same... but with me if I have a spliff I get an uncontrollable urge to listen to a finished product and play some cd's or have a mix.
What I do find useful is to have one and then listen to what u've done at the end of the session, as it helps you hear the track in your head as a whole rather than a group of individual components. |

right.
musicmaking after a spliff is transforming to slow tweaking 1 knob (filter freq) with such face

There is a famous quote....and I wish I could remember who it was by...but I can't, only it was a famous guitarist
" People always tell me how lucky I am to have such a great talent, and I say to them it's funny, the more I practice the luckier I get!" |

you've got to be ready to loose some less important things like your best friends, girlfriend, job, family relation, health & physical state, and many others ...

and I'm just talking about what happens when you put music in 1st place priority and let it take you over completely.
which does not make you even close to 'that' good, it just makes you a full time musician. ;D
