What is your opinion on drugs?

A few days ago I discovered the Psychedelic trance thread and although it had many arguements, it touched an important subject that I believe had bothered everyone from time to time. The subject of drugs and their place in society.
It looks like some of us have different views than others and from the first post of this thread I would like to advise evryone to keep a civilised manner and if they don't agree with other people to say their opinions with respect to their fellow forumers. In addition, I would like to kindly ask the moderators to be patient and accept all points of view but still do their job and 'moderate' the dialog.
Also since this thread might be read by very young people, try not to post any advice you wouldn't give to your children.
So here it is:
What is your opinion on drugs? Should these substances be controlled by the government? If yes, what would be the best way?
Please speak of specific substances, we all know every one of them is different (I hope).

if it is then why dont ppl haave that right ?

I can see where you're coming from Psy_mystic and you know I respect your opinion but I don't think it is that simple. In an ideal society it would work like this but we all know our society is not perfect.
The purpose it to reach that society some day but we must recognise that this has to be done in small steps.
Ok, it is easy to talk without actually taking a position. My opinion is that some substances should be controlled but not in the way they are now. I don't think that using a substance should be a punishable act and I think dealing drugs should fall under commerce law rather than criminal law. I also think there should be some ethics involved. I'll give an example. We all know that it is ok to do what we want with ourselves but it is VERY WRONG to go to someone who has never used drugs before and offer him anything saying 'try this, it is really cool'. That's the wrong way for someone to find out about drugs.
Before I forget, I would like to say that the state should be responsible for educating the citizens about these things in an objective manner. And the 'specialists' should not come only from medical backgrounds but also phychology and social sciences. We have so many graduates doing shitty jobs, we might as well let encourage them to work on something that is usefull to society!
As you see from the above I don't have a fully developed opinion, but some 'directions' I see as possitive.
Please share your 'directions' or the points you find interesting or important and let's try to pick the 'good bits' from everyone's opinions |

1st of all my friend, the above statememnt has nothing to do with trance music...
Sorry to dissapoint Schizomorph,
but this forum is about trance music and not about drugs or what so ever...
Talking about drugs is not allowed in here, so please keep it somewhere else...
I can see your point of view, and you have nice perception about it, but please try to understand that what everybody is doing in his/her personal life is a private matter that we do not need to know and share...
Now since the forum is dedicated to music ONLY, I'll have to lock this thread.
