there is no secrets!

first you should "use the search" and "Read this first + FAQ!"

when you working with close hihats its all about velocity!
some fx can be nice like phaser, flanger
also tuning

the patterns can be different......for example:
close hihat on every 1/16 note with different velocities.....or: every second note
open hihat on every third note of 1/16

just use the search.....there is alot of info by fuzzikitten and kaz about hihats and drums!

IMO the best way to find out what other people do with hihat patterns (actually any kind of patterns) is to listen to them and draw your own conclusions. Otherwise making music becomes like driving using a satnav... you get where you want to go but you don't learn anything about the route you took; you can't get back there on your own next time and won't be able to check out any of the more interesting scenery away from the main road.

very well said, Colin!

arish, you should listen to the tracks you like most and analyze the patterns yourself. this is the best way to learn and remember.           $ exp(j*pi) + 1 = 0. $

try feeling the beat, make the hat similar to the main melody, or maybe similar to the bass, mess around with velocity...

so colin... should i skip my gps ? but it might take hours with all the mistakes i will do...

nice metafore , workx 2 ways

anyhow i like using hihat mostly on 16th with velociy and slight shuffle!

also tune it with the open one (sometime i like the open hi to be actualy abit lower in pitch for some reason)

hipass for sure.. and stereo games are major fun           www.sattelbattle.com
