I got a Joe Meek SC2 stereo compressor. It uses an optical circuit instead of valves. Simple to use, By messing around with the the controls it's easy to get it to pump quite heavily (but musically) on any rythmic sounding pattern, e.g. drums, bass, synths, etc, in a submix or on the main mix. Not that expensive (£650 on ebay)
You don't need more than one good h/w comp if you have multitrack + midi setup because you can re-use the same compressor on all instruments and main mix if you want. |
