I know it generally means “against”. But what exactly does it mean in electronic music?
Is it when two producers jam together, mixing their ideas live? Or is it when they have the same project open on synchronized laptops and they take turns tweaking things? Or maybe it has nothing to do with live performance at all – does it just mean collaboration between two people (as in EvsY)? Like Fat Data would be "Orange vs. Diskonekt"??
Thanks.

In clubs it can be 2 dj's taking turns mixing tracks and see who can bring the best climax to the people, it's nice! I know Dj Slater and Dj Osho has a nice chemistry when it comes to this
In production terms it can be as easy as me doing a collaboration with another artist and instead of doing it under a different moniker just naming it "solid snake vs Maine Coon - What's VS?"
Cheers,
A

Well, 'vs.' which means 'versus' is the most universal designation of any collaboration between two or more artists.
'Feat.' which means 'featuring' isn't fitting when there is 50/50 collaboration of two or more atists (if more there will be other proportion). When featuring it means that there is a track fully produced by someone and another project or solo musician/vocalist is appearing with vocals or playing some instrument.
'On' has hidden sexual meaning and is fitting to the situation like Overdream on Michel Anderson, or Overdream on Olivia Wilde (not sure if she is performing in any way ). Be carefull with that.

in most cases Vs. should mean contribution of two artists with different styles where both styles can be heard clearly in a track / tune....
For example you see distinctive sounds of one artist overlapped / arranged or just progressing to another artists style / sound etc... eventually merging and sounding ONE.
Logically the Vs. should be seen in this way but now a days, just a plain collaboration i.e. working together on a track which may or may not have unique sound signatures of artists is also called xyz Vs. Abc....

Thanks for the explanations, everybody.
My own guess was actually what Sanathana described here. For example, it’s “Lauge & Baba Gnohm” but it would be “Lauge vs. Silent Horror” (yeah, I know it’s a bit far-fetched ).
I saw this big Indian concert on a DVD once. It was a huge show in some Khaliji country (Dubai?). At some point there were two drummers playing. One had a modern drum kit the size of a stadium. The other one had 3-4 traditional drums (and managed to get a thousand different sounds out of them). It started as them taking turns and playing unrelated parts. Then it turned into somewhat of a challenge, where one drummer would play his version of what the other one just played and then add a phrase of his own. The other one would play his version of that phrase and add something etc. And finally both parts merged into one pattern: East meets West, the past meets the present. This kind of performance is what I thought “vs.” would mean, but the way people use it instead of “&” confused me a bit.
Anyway, thanks again for explanations.
P.S. BTW, I found an “anti-Lauge” on YouTube. That one really could go vs. Silent Horror. Check out the metal thread in the music forum, if you are curious.
...Hope I did not just offend Lauge...
