granulizer split your sound to a lot of grains (pieces), then this grains played in adittion with the generator. different length and grain fill brings you do different sounds on output. also u can use it like time stretch without changing original pitch.
if u confused just use it for making cool fx and stretching 
and what u mean by word "fx"?
