I always wanted an analog synth, and am thinking on what to buy. Unfortunately the money factor these days is minimal. I want to use it mainly for basslines and leads. So, please give me your input, all of you, especially also Spindrift!

For basslines and leads, also not much money(for analog), you could look at the Moog Little Phatty.
Actually there is one sitting right in front of me now....I'm probably going to sell it though...I really like the sound but I can't justify having it when I could spend the money on something that can do so many more things.
Though it's good at what it does....I need to at least make a bunch of multi samples before I sell it.

Ok, since you requested it
But it helps to know what budget you actually have and what you are looking for.
Since I'm not much of a hardware fanatic nowadays I'm not to clued up on the prices so maybe someone will correct me if, but there is some of the models I used which is not really costly:
Pro-Ones can go reasonably cheap (€300-400) and is one of my favourites.
Excellent sound and modulation capabilities...but old synths can sound tired many times and you need a CV converter as well which can bump the cost quite a bit.
Roland Juno Alpha 2 is really cheap (€150-200?) but of course for a reason. It's ok but not great sounding and definitely not programming friendly.
Korg DW8000 has digital oscillators which means even if it's old it will not be drifting and can make nice sounds. (€200?)
Ensonique ESQ-1 is again digital oscillators and analogue filters and can make some really nice and interesting sounds...but it's quite buggy. (€200?)
Also the Mirage sampler has analogue filters and combined with the 8-bit sampling it is a great lo-fi machine. (€150-200?)
More modern analogues usually sounds tighter...but if you want one with knobs they will be costly and below some €400-500 I can only think of the Novation Bass station which is cheap, has knobs but not very good sound.
Waldorf pulse should not be too expensive (€400-500) and is decent although not very exiting sounding.
If you can spend the money for an ATC-1 that is a great little synth IMO. Easy to program for only having one knob, broad spectrum of sounds if you get a few different filters for it and decent MIDI control. But I guess that if you do find someone selling one and it has several filters it will be around €1000.....but maybe one can find one with just a single filter for €600 or so?
But to answer the actual topic according to the title I would have to say the cheapest that is worth buying will be the ESQ-1.
It sucks to work with, but it sounds really unique and can be had for next to nothing. (``·.¸(``·.¸(``·.¸¸.·`´)¸.·`´)¸.·`´)

The Novation Bass station does suck imo.
Many thanks for your valuable input, maybe I should bite into the sour apple and save some more $ to get an access virus. Maybe a snow although it is virtual analog... or a virus b...???
Sequential Circuits Pro One does indeed look enticing tho... maybe I can scoop one up over the net...

Upavas do you mean "real" analog or just hardware, so is VA okay? I have recently got Waldorf Micro Q, it's VA and a very good device for the price (i've got used for ~300 euros or even less)
If you want real analog for cheap price. go for Polyvox Evil beast!

check mfb like the Synth lite II , 200 euro and it sound better than a virus ti (at what it does , forget complex sounds... ) or vintage synth like korg ms 20 , sequencial circuit pro one (but i would go for a newer analog insteed ) ,if you have a bit money try to find a macbeth m3x mk2.
also there is spectral audio synths, Analogue Solutions Semblance ...and many more |

if you want to buy new, i'd go for a dave smith evolver. i've heard they're pretty special once you get used to the interface.

roland sh101 can't go wrong or more modern dave's evolver both very good,,,, waldorf pulse is sweet too
not necessary dull or boring sounding, you just gotta program that fucker, and to some the matrix begins to get annoying but theres a vst plugin just for it
i should know cus thats what i did it gives more or less the Acess virus ti experience... obviously ju buy that plugin from a 3rd party company not waldorf best regards... id go with any of those Cheers
as for the fatty very nice my friend got one but dammmm thats alot of money for 1 not heh!
get any of those i mentioned above...
the evolver could do more sonicly than sh101 due to the fact that it has wavetables, it 2 digital and 2 analog OSC and more but
where the sh101 takes it all home is da fact that that fucker had to have been made to be played not programmed hehehe cus everything is right there instant grab and tweak the synths layout is its greatest strenth and the sound hasnt stop surprising me it got something most new synths aint got - and that my friend is soul that machine has got something believe the hype it does something hard to explain u have to buy one good luck im out... ps i manage to get the cool psy vocal efx out of it and to be fully honest it kinda schooled my nord on it and we all know nords are sick at that type of sound unfornutely i never wrote the settings and my lil cusin fucked it up we he came over kids i tell ya!!!! so if you do get one get a camera just to take snapshots cus that sucker got no memory for your presets...
thats it major turn-off if you can live with that GET IT... yes im a sh101 fanatik
SH101 KICKS ASS
and i was one of those who also bought the midi to cv converter worth almost just as much as the synth pheeeew talk bout expensive shit, but im fully satisfied no complains for 2 yrs now, |

Wow, that's what I am talking about, a list to drool over...
I am very intrigued with the Blofeld. Especially since it seems to be closer to the pricerange I was thinking. I saw it on ebay for around $850.
Nordlead 2 is another synth I have been eying...
the Synth lite 2seems to have a limited wave form selection so not sure about that one, also there are problems when choosing the sawtooth wave in the respective Oscillators.
Medea, I did mean real analog initially, but am thinking about va as well, just not sure what to get at all at this time.
Although the Plugiator emulates actual instruments themselves it is still a sampler and I am hungry for osc power...
Then there is the Polyvox...
I would love to try that one. They say the filter is better than moogs...
please, keep them coming

obviously u do know blofeld and nords are digital,
and u stated analog pure analog hehehe i hate to sound like an anolog freak but if u want bass get analog, leads are great on nord though cus of its fm sound fukn radikal but do consider the sh101,,, if u got software synths already.... my buddy got the blofeld its ok but nothing that shook me up, as my studio grew i had lots of cool new stuff and that is when my vintage analog frenzy struck and i can honestly say analog was what my sound was missing, its good to have all these different textures in the music also did i forget to mention that the sh101 makes great kicks, bass, acid leads, and efx dude ders nuthing not to like and you could get one for 300 - 500 plus u can run it on batteries try that on everyone elses list of suggestion plus u can wear it like a guitar like the 80'sband heehe, sorry if theres one great analog and affordable synth its the sh101 hands down! and i dont work for roland hehe besides it discontinued lol good luck!@ |

dave smith evolver has 2 digital and 2 analogue oscillators running through Curtis analogue filters!
definitely not a 'grab and tweak' synth until you know how the UI works... |

well aeon its not a grab and tweak synth due to its size
all those features in such a small piece deserves a trophy or what not hehe but despite that dave made it as simple as possible...
but if u dont like the pulse matrix layout you'll hate dave's evolver even more... it definitly is tweakable but not as easy u would like u have to have a midi splitter and a controller with lots of knobs then u will have the same tweakability as a nord or an sh101... after of course creating a template for it! the evolver creates some really nasty basslines more abstract, and its distortion sounds just right, analog distortion
i tell ya its not like digital its round and fat...
