check http://www.soundonsound.com and search for 'synth secrets'. This used to be a recurring column in Sound on Sound magazine, and through the years they have synthesized almost every instrument in existence. It has numerous tips 'n tricks for creative synthesis. |

first you need to realize that there are many forms of synthesis,.
as far as i know your nord is only capable of one type: subtractive
you may want to concentrate on that bit first.,
(but please DO look at other types of synthesis as well, just for broadening your horizon )
if you've got the feeling you're not squeezing the last drop of posibility out of your nord then first of all RTFM very carefully,.
look for the stuff you dont understand and try to learn more about that,.
if you realy cant understand you can always ask here what a function does.,
also, experimenting is a goldmine in itself.,
do crazy stuff.,
try to imagine what you are doing to the sound.,
get to realy KNOW your tool.,
also, by experimentation you will know what your particular synth is capable of., there are lots of synths out there with lots of different sets of funcions.,
greets.,

ooh, and a bit of warning,
the computermusic tutorial about FM is pure bull (the theory part anyway).,
they explain AM synthesis, not FM synthesis.,
and it's even worse than that because they use FM7 as an example-synth.,
FM7, like the yamaha range of FM synths use a special form of FM synthesis called Phase Modulation (as opposed to Frequency Modulation) synthesis., you may want to look it up if you're interested.
so dont believe it
(sorry input, i had to say this what they write is realy incorrect so don't flame me for critisizing it)
greets.,
