it s 75% the interface 25% algorithms ( most of these eq can probably null anyway if you try to match the sound and phase revert, i matched the api ,epure ,oxford with the ssl x-eq not to infinity but from far to make a big difference in the sound, so there is really nothing special in all these eq that are considered to be the some of the best minimum phase, even a well designed freeware ll sound as good)
but a good interface ll make you take some decisions you won t with a less intuitive one and that way you get better results (even how the default q is set can make you think a eq sound better than a other )

btw..the API 500series sound way better than the emulated plugibs..really no omparison to find...maybe A-Designs P

wich i suddely not had the chance to hear...but hey,if you are going to by a mono EQ for over 1000€

then why not get the best u can achieve..

there will come DAV Electronics BG.NO1 as 500 series in two weeks..a very clean and neutral preamp..so if youre into clean sound like classic or orchestra...than this will be the choice definatly..

good luck!

SSL Duende ! Thats the best eq I know its sounds far better than any eq mentioned here. The sonnox eq with GML curve is in the same league but thats TDM only. The channel strip has a compressor an eq and expander. talking about ssl sound here you got it.

The waves SSL is not bad but I use both and find the duende definitely superior even though the waves is not bad at all. Sonnox eq native version would be in the same league as the waves ssl.

The Api collection and v series are not bad at all but I didnt have the chance to use them much because I do not own them.

For Precision I think the flux are superb! Probably the best outhere along with the x series from ssl

If you don't want to go dsp, I think the sonnox native is very good value for the money it is in the big league and cost I think around £200 which makes it very interesting,

linear phase eq or minimum phase eq can not be seen as all round eq. These are primarily mastering eq. they do not ad color to the sound, they are quite transparent therefore have no character.

It is phase that brings character in an eq. so it is not wise to use a mastering eq as all round eqs. Those eq mentioned do not all add to the sound because some emulate analog unit other are precision eq.

yes, also linear phase eq's produce much more latency to the sound than the "usual" ones
(ok you ll tell me that there's delay compensation on sequencers, but youd never use waves LinEq on your bass for example, isnt that right?)

maybe its better to discuss about "punchy" eq's or techniques making it more punchy, like for example sometimes you can achieve very nice results when put, in a full parametric eq, two eq's facing each other,, one boosting - one cutting or close to each other to make peaks and resonances to point on specific frequencies that will make your sound "fatter" or to distinguish better within the mix, you know that kind of stuff
