Well.... some really awesome stuff out in 2008.
My pick wld be Mauxuam - Vice Versa .. a kind of style so unique and unheard like.... Its like demented chill out!
Other contenders ....
Androcell - Efflorscence....
Distant System - Spiral Empire
Eat Static - Back to Earth (based on Middle eastern rhythms , nothing new, but still nice)
Will o the wisp - Long Sleep pain

besides whats already been nominated such as the evan marc/steve hillage & distant system i'll add these -
Hibernation-some things never change
/* 'state of the art' downbeat lounge music */
Proton Kinoun - Apeiron [free net release]
/* deep space ambient that wisks you off on a journey to another place...better than steve roach
http://www.last.fm/music/Proton+Kinoun/Apeiron
*/
Sounds from the Ground - brightwhitelight
/* a return to old school ambient dub , i was pleasantly suprised*/
Bluetech - Phoenix Rising
/* brilliant story telling and complete compositions
*/
Don Peyote - Peyote Dreaming
/* released in 2007 but only appeared in 08..this had a great live feel to it and some wicked world dub moments */
def somnia was the label of the year...and i ended up acquiring nearly every release.
the abakus, entheogenic, eat static, ott i'm afraid had some good tracks, great production but didnt explore new territory...nice cover art though
hey this year aint over yet! |

I'd have to throw Future Memories (Interchill) in there, almost for "Ultimax - Noir" alone - brilliant! But also for "CBL - Reaktion" and "Cell - Spinning Whale".
My other favouriate (in no particular order) are:
Motionfield - Optical Flow (this album is going to be the music that plays for the guests before I am married this weekend!)
Juxta Phona & OffTheSky - !escape kit!
Vataff Project - Kalitz
Hol Baumann and I Awake albums
Really like Bluetech - Pheonix Rising, and am super keen to get my hands on the Warp Technique album...
All in all, I think it has been a grand year!

That names a number of my favorites from this year. You and I seem to have very similar tastes in music. Congrats on the on your wedding this weekend! Best wishes to you and your future wife! I know the best part of my wedding was afterwards and how all the pressure of planing and prepping (even for our simple wedding) just kind of evaporated after the first dance and the first few drinks. |

Thanks Tech Monkey.
Yeah, i reckon i'll be well at ease after the ceremony is over and i've said my vows.
There's a lot of work preparing a for a wedding. More than I thought. Luckily for me my partner has done most of it as she has been on maternity leave from work for most of the last year.
We probably do have similar tastes - and good taste too, might i add!
