My friends actually just gave me 5 blank CDs to fill with psy a couple weeks ago! I did...
1 - Progressive
2 - A dark sampler
3 - Twilight
4 - Morning-ish/Goa/Full-on
5 - My current favs
Artists were pretty in line with Dan's CD and my favorites leaned towards the darker side of psy.
Such a fun project though! It was the first time anybody has ever asked me for a mix. A nice change in pace from the "why do you always listen to that techno?" |

whats to be afraid of its just music like any other genre its all just music. if he likes shpongle thats great because simon kicks ass and his music is a masterpiece. also if your friend ever seen him he knows what to expect as far as i know the sets simon plays are psytrance. you said your friend goes to hippy fests thats really cool too, i find that those festivals are more open to diffrent music, and dont just have one genre with subgenres be the whole festival which is nice. best festivals i been to have been what some psy trance folks call hippy festivals. there i met many diffrent people who like and respect anything from hip hop to jazz to psytrance. i think you can relax and not worry because your friend might not even care about psytrance as much as you think because in the end its JUST music. hope that helps just make him a cd and hope he likes it which he will. or you can blame this thread lol |

I've got a couple friends that are primed to get into psy (jamband types who are 'just diggin the elctronics more these days' and getting tired of the shady kids at phish shows)
just give them a copy of "Where Do We Go?" the blue cd will be like what they expect Trance to be like, but weirder. and the red cd will show them what's really up 
i was also thinking of giving them a Furious/Delirious Noon two-fer.

and to attest to these "hippie" hybrid festivals....wakarusa, one of the biggest rock and bluegrass festivals in the nation, had a late night shpongle show that gets my stamp of approval as one HELL of a freak show...focused or not, that shit was HEDONISM101....take it or leave it
