a midi gate opens or closes a gate... a door if you will... you set a certain treshold, attack and release... everything above the treshold will go through the "gate" (is played) and the sounds below the threshold gets cut... there comes attack and release into the game. you set how fast it will react and how fast it will cut the sound.
normally you open the midi gate on a vst or hardware synth track, you assign a second midi track to the midigate vst and use notes on this second midi track for triggering the gate.
typical stutter psy leads and strings are made like this. beats gain also alot. for example if you got a busy drumloop and you want to shorten the cymbals between the drumhits a gate can help you safe the day.

leech the midi gater... frankly I have to say it takes some work to avoid clicky noises. play around with attack and release settings as described.
hope that helps

One example that was used in old tracks and I used that in my last track (you can check in new tracks section). Using a midi gate on a choir sound, that adds a lot. Mostly it used on strings but you can add to a lead-synth sound and really cool stuff can come out of it.

Arpegiator is something way different. It plays a few notes on different octaves when you press one note. For example it will play c3 c4 c5 (I have no music theory, sorry), this is one of the simplest arpeggios. You can program almost every parameter in those arpeggios.
hope i helped

imagine the long feedback sounds is a synth. add a midigate to the synth channel.
create a new midi track, route it to midigate and add new notes to this channel playing at the same time as the synth with the duration that you want the delay to have.
then adjust the env settings in midigate.
now you don't have to worry about automating the feedback to reduce the delay tail but if your problem is delay tails mixing together then you HAVE to automate the feedback knob. |

Also a midi gate is great for recording,
set the treshold so you eliminate background noise while nothing is being played...
