flac = free lossless audio codec

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Free_Lossless_Audio_Codec

is like wav quality, only losslessly compressed.

FLAC = CD-quality. It is better than WAV for two main reasons: 1) the files are smaller (40%-60%), and 2) FLAC supports tagging (very useful, especially in the era of digital DJing).

yeah but in my opinion, flac isnt that good, because it is stream compressed so you have to wait maybe a little when you skip inside a track. and with mass storage so ridicously cheap nowadays, its just not worth the fuss imho.

I always decode FLAC files. Encoded files played directly in a FLAC-player sound way worse than the decoded WAV file.

I use Foobar2000 for all my audio, but you can get a decoder at least for winamp.

There is no delay when skipping using foobar2000 so the problem is not the format but rather something with the software or hardware you use for playing back your flac files.

This sounds very strange and I have never experienced that issue and I really doubt that there exists any decoders for FLAC that would not be capable of decoding a true bit-by-bit copy.
In that case you should file a bug report to the developer because if you look at the FLAC spec it is designed to be possible to decode streaming and still recreate the original wav. Or just use Foobar instead.
My guess is that you are experiencing placebo or that you use a player with replay gain active and that it's an amplitude difference you are hearing.

Placebo might be indeed Still, as I'm an incurable fundamentalist, I prefer WAV files           Anakoluth A Pebble in Your Eardrum's Shoe since 2001!

I think it's more simple to use, even with bigger file size.

Sometimes you can find some erros while decoding your .FLAC file.
Happened to me many times already!
