i understand it as a track who seems to be faster than his real speed... right?

layer multiple closed hihats, play with their velocities and position (they are not supposed to be completely quantized), also the same with the bassline.
big fat kicks tender to make things sound slower, use shorter kicks (with maybe a little bit of delay) and shorter basslines, and also play with velocities of the bassline.

+1
Try listening to some popular pop, rock, classic... Find out what makes the tracks "drive" or "flow"

also no stated here, it helps at times to automate the tempo a tad in climax moments, speed it up a bit...
drop the elements and then bring a swoosh, stab, hit wateva u want then throw the elements back on, part of the drive is playing with the arrangement, and a couple more tricks mentioned already here such a fucken around with the velocities, the hi hats and snares really are more respondsible in the drive the kick is just the base, but yet again maybe some efx on the kick might create some sort of drive aswell, but the important aspect in my opinion on creating drive is all for the most part ur arrangement
grab a couple of tracks u really like 2-3 and analize em to the T, learn every element in the track how they remove and how and where they are brought back, arrangement is the most important aspect in drive, cheers n good luck .... LET THE FLOW BE WITH YOU |

drive, groove.... Is that something that makes people dancing? )
imho it's very subjective and hard to analyze. More about feeling...
Listening to music in special states of mind can help to catch it sometimes, to remeber, and then try to reproduce what you fell, in sober state already
However, i think it's all about rhythm + sound-design (very abstract, yes, but that's it).

Thank you all for your comments. Specially> psyaudionamics .
For the last 2 posts>
I dont enjoy that kind of metal, im sorry but, although im thankful for the examples, i don't find the "drive" in those videos :S A mater of taste i guess.
I know this is something subjetive and hard to analyze i just wanted to know if i had the right concept in mind.
thx again |
