What is acid techno ?

I've always thought it was techno with ultra-annoying acid/303 lines, but someone explained to me that it's just really random twisted stuff. Which I like the sound of. Is this right?
I've totally ignored this genre but I'd like to check it out. What sort of labels and artists should I hunt down? Does anyone actually like it?

my dear...nice question...many people argue about this all the time...well acid techno is a natural evolution of the 80s house music,acid house and that ravy hardcore that we used to listen in early 90s....you know some artists like EMMANUEL TOP,KEOKI,SVEN VATH,CHOCI FROM CHOCI CHEWNS(A GREAT 90S ACID LABEL),JOSH WINK,PLASTIKMAN,SOLAR QUEST...do u remember acid flash compilations?well recently a lot of minimal and techno artists are making it again.....in the middle of 90s everyone got tired of the tb 303...now i think( at least me )people are tired of virus access(every band sounds the same)and the people are going back to dirtiness ih ih ih
check also chris liberator work but dont forget to take a listen to audion,misc,marc houle or something from the minus label
if you want to talk about or that i show good examples of acid techno just pm me.....

thanks alot for tha suggzstionzz ...
like some of it  ..
kindaa did some hunting meself nd found some London Acid Techno - like the Smittens, SUFs, Sidewalk Theorys - pretty much all pumping stuff.
I find that some london acid techno tracks (especially newer ones) are sometimes on the verge of a sound like Acid Hard House, or Hard Acid Trance..
can neone recommend some European acid techno
and maybe some American acid techno ..

gotta agree on the D. A. V. E. the Drummer call. A lot of it's not my thing, but his style is what I've always thought of as "acid techno"

hey i love acid techno by dave the drummer, all old smittens or routemasters, but i cant called Acid Techno thats this one only is, but defo thats a one, very pumping branch of acid techno - propably the best one
Acid Techno thats a stronger words that most people thinking.
