The reason why i ask this is because im thinking of building a hardware studio for psy/oldschool goa.
Im tired of sitting in front of a computer to make music and i really love that old analog sound:D
what should you buy to get started?
Im thinking about maybe have a good basssynth
i believe that freebass fb383 could fit for this purpouse.I have no clue for what i should use for a hardware sequencer, though i love step sequencers but donŽt now of any good ones.
I have a roland sh 101 could it fit into this goasound?

sh 101 is great but i would use a computer for sequencing ,it remove the need of a good sampler and it have lot of advantage except maybe midi timings. with 101 you sample it you can make some basslines some drums and fx ,use it for leads..it can cover a lot already.
maybe try to pm Jannis from filteria on the forum i m sure he can help you.
best set up for me would be to mix using a analog desk and sequence in a computer but it would cost more than just using a computer |

I could get a JV-1080 for 150 Euros.
Should I get it?

Filteria uses Waldorf Q all over.
So maybe either a Micro Q or a Blofeld would be a nice synth for you probably. |

Yes, a SH101 fits very well in a psytrance studio. A lot of oldschool artists still use one.

We are not old school but use one as well.
Peace out.

for bass a great start is the novation bass-station,it doesn't cost too much and it really got that oldstyle goa sound.
the OSCar does sound really goa like, but someone told me they die too easy and the spare parts aren't cheap and numerous...
access virus ti,waldorf blofeld, korg microkorg xl, roland sh-201, clavia nord wave, korg kaoss pad 3, DSI Tempest, hohner something... |

I owned one for over ten years now, and I love it. I have the Vintage Synth and Techno Rom Card in it. I like it for pads, Analog
leads and for bass with slow tempo. Be sure you use it with Sounddiver for programming!

i bought a blofeld right that time they came out cause it pretty much covers all the goods from the older waldorf machines.
i dig waldorf sound and love them all from pulse to blofeld. anyways, i found only two comfortable to play around with in studio and on the road: microwave XT (which is even much more comfortable than blofeld, made to pull like a beast on its knobs and even got (great quality) knobs for mostly each parameter, rather than 6 knobs and 4 buttons 4 all, love to torture that machine!!) and for sure the blofeld, which is just great in all its possibilities, covers all the waveforms waldorf is famous for, ppg filter, and fm and modulation possibilities many softsynths still dream of (except the largo for sure )!!
iŽd say for studio get the xt if you think of getting a waldorf. its made to eat dust for centurys and imo much of the older goa stuff is made with pulse/microwave/ppg wave as they simply came first with a great deal of modulating waveforms, own wavetables and great fm possibilities in one synth with many knobs coming much more handy than a modular system and damn low price instead.
anyways, sorry the novel, im quite impressed by waldorf stuff in past and presence but sure there is a lot of cool and new stuff besides from other companies which dont sleep aswell. iŽd say a moog machine will be a must if you want to go really oldschool ^^
cheers: stephan
