- Low latency
- Better signal to noise ratio
- Better sound quality overall
- The possibility of recording instruments with good A/D converters
- 24 Bit 96 Khz Sound |

If you aren't recording anything, not much.
Less noise on the outputs to the monitors and lower latency I guess.

You will probably be working on 44.1khz anyway.
The 16/24 bit is relevant for recording only, your DAW uses whatever it has (be it 32 or 64).
So again, less noise on the outputs to the monitors and lower latency is what you're getting.

Better functioning soundcard? = less problems? = more time actually making music? soundcloud.com/supergroover |

Having a better of faster sound card doesn't mean it functions better or has less problems.. For instance, I've almost never had a problem with an internal onboard audio card, but with an external professional audio card on comes the trouble.. You have to install proper drivers, and hope the card won't come out of sync with the computer (with my Presonus Firebox I've had quite a lot of issues with this, which is a bummer playing live ).
If you're a geek like me you might like to use Linux, and making an external audio card working in UNIX is a fight, when almost always the onboard card always works.
On the other hand, your onboard card sucks. -With a good sound card you have low latency and power in your DAW, without audio dropouts and with a ton of quality
To conclude I think a good sound card is a must for music production, but it will bring you some problems.
