What gives the kick and bass it´s tight timing?

Note length of kick, and position/length of each of the bass notes... is a very good way to get nice groove.
Not everything has to be on the grid, experiment with that i.e. shorten the kick a bit less than 1/16th, move the first bass note a bit earlier, shorten that one, then the 2nd bass note a bit later and longer.
You get tight k&b in no time.
Then the rest of the tools , comp, eq, etc. help further.
And don't try to mix the K&B on their own. Make your pads, percussion, leads, stabs, etc. The perception of kick & bass changes drastically depending what's around it. |
