You want to improve creativity, buy and learn instruments.

Want to improve mixing quality, improve monitoring situation with a good (AD)DA, nice monitors and acoustical treatment.

Just installed my SSL Alphalink MADI AX with my SSL MX4 up to my Focal Twins. Unbeliveable clearity... everything is "tightened up", and way clearer. Its so much easier to hear compression, and eq'ing is way easier. Stereofield is wider and there is more space around each sound...

Really impossible to explain in words. But man how effective.

Im a happy gearslut!           http://www.myspace.com/fragletrollet

Sure it was expensive. I do not have too much money, just doing some heavy prioritizing For me it was the best system, also because then I can bypass FL`s non latency-compensatable mixer           http://www.myspace.com/fragletrollet

Yeah, noodles and water

So far so good. Very nice to be able to have a center-hub for all my (future) gear.

Sending alot of channels to eq and dynamics without having to tax the cpu, gives me the flexibility to quickly set up a rough mix and get an overview.           http://www.myspace.com/fragletrollet

Wow, looks very interesting. What sort of plugin count do you get on it? How much was it? Are you using all the I/O on the Alphalink?           Mastering - http://mastering.OOOD.net :: www.is.gd/mastering

Havent really gotten to fully test if yet Colin, but the DSP available is totally up to the configuration. The mixer tracks almost dont take any DSP; while the SSL plugs (like eq/filter, dynamics and buscomp) are rather hungry. I maxxed out the dsp with about 24 channels fully loaded with eq and buscomp (44,1khz/24bit). There is a chart somewhere on the SSL site informing on plugincounts.

That is a rather rare scenario tough, most of the time Id use alot of tracks and busses, and only use the ssl plugs on the busses. Im thinking to get an UAD quadcore to use with it too. Finally I have a latency-compensating mixer

Im only using 2 analog out atm But I chose to get a AD/DA with loads of channels, so I dont have to upgrade when i buy a console and loads of outboards in the future.

It was expensive as hell. Retail here in norway for MX4+Alphalink MADI AX is about 5k euros. I work in an audio shop so I get better prices, but good gear is expensive.

It was really easy to set up, and worked right away. I havent gotten a single error yet, and it works smoothly.           http://www.myspace.com/fragletrollet
