if it s just 2 months you re producing maybe just use what you have for now, wait to be sure you dont want to stop soon.
you can make decent stuff with just a computer and some hifi speaker and maybe invest in a good heaphone so even if you stop it will still be usefull .

For the headphones I'm going for the AKG K-272 HD .

What do you think?

dunno man never used them , akg are supossed to be fine.
i have read a article where the guy was saying engeinners like and praise sennheiser hd 600, beyer dt880 , akg 701... cause they havent used newer headphone that take advantage of the technology progress.
the market is very big these day ,there is headphone for everyone taste, like monitors the best would be to listen first.

maybe check these sites , it might help in your quest http://www.headphone.com/index.php
http://www.head-fi.org/

for me the ath m50 work well, and i use a dt880 just to check.i trust the experience of the guy who tell me to buy the ath, he used many and play on clubs a lot since more than a decade ,he told me ath m50 have best low end and are great for electronic music and translation to clubs..but what work for him dont mean it will work for you but personally i find them good. with my dt880 i almost never used them, just to check mix,the ath i use them a lot mroe cause the sound is great, remind me a little the dryness and balance of dynaudio, not fatiguing soft highs.
with headphone it s easy to make mixing mistake, they have a learning curve ,personally i like to use them with monitors, to tweak source, eq and balance things, the ath are great for equing and levels, you feel boost and cut like on monitors.
i have used only the dt880 ath m 50 so take this with a grain of salt..not much experience with headphones

i was checking what they say on headphone.com about the ath , it s in their top 10, imo you can t go wrong with this one for the price .

With the ATH-M50, Audio Technica Pro Division can boast of designing one of the best closed headphones anywhere near this price. The M50 stokes listeners seeking rich but textured bass response with well-rendered vocal midrange and smoothly extended, clear upper treble detail. Moderate efficiency favors use with headphone amps for maximum dynamics when used with iPods / MP3 players, but the M50 will sound strong even without dedicated amplification. Great build quality plus good wearing comfort satisfies those expecting a headphone to work & play as hard as they do.

in a good day i have made better kick bass on the ath than on my monitors (well in fact i use both and it s clearly superior to have juste the monitors or just the headphone ) how you can tweak the synths when making the bass and the kick offer something different than on monitors imo you hear plenty of details also good for tonal balance.
first kick bass i made with them it sounded like stuff you can hear from zen mechanics or dick trevor in the same ballparks with just a little adjusting on the monitors.(but like i said in a other thread once you re used to your tools you tweak synths use eq and processing in a more mechanical way so one could get good kick bass even on macbook speaker i guess after 200 kick bass tweaked on monitors..you know what work and what don t)
i think orgy use the akg 701 and i m not sure they have good low end, i doubt it from what he say

orgy have you tried while using the headphone to a/b with a reference tune? might help to tell you how a kick bass that translate well should sound so you can balance yours the same

hehe , i have the the akg k142 (only ~100€)
i admit i have not best headphones knowledge,
but with each one i tried, kick and bass sounded different in
comparison to basic (cheap) studiomonitors.

sure i tried the A/B thing, and as you said there is a way
to get used to the headphones. the question is if im willing
to do so. why listening to different sounding kicks when i
can hear the pure fat focal sound xD

for me, the only thing headphones are useable for, is to
check back my tracks, like my car speakers... and for
hearing exact reverbs... but with a well treated room this
is also no problem

cheers

Hello everyone .

I started to produce trance music only 2 months ago and use 2 simple computer speakers and cheap headphones for the nights.

I feel that for now I should buy good monitors and maybe good headphones for "night producing " .

My friend also recommended to me get a good sound card if I want to use good monitors .

I would like to hear your opinions and tips about what equipment should a beginner buy .
Also recommendations about specific stuff are welcomed .

I'm serious about music production (Also have played guitar for 5 years ) so I don't mind invest in some good stuff for long period .

Thanks for posting

1 - Good Monitors!!!
2 - Good Soundcard!!!
3 - Acoustic Treatment!!!
When you're ready to get serious treat your room!!!
Place your speakers and sweet spot in the right position within the room and treat your room with basstraps and absobers, reflectors, etc...          http://www.MindDoctorsMakeAcid.com

A decent soundcard and good headphones are enough. I've been producing for some years, I'm not a pro by any means but I know it is enough to make good mixes.           Free album out now:
