Ok.... I've started working no my first goa track. I have a good beat and bassline. I also have a acid lead, a pad and effects sounds. I will also be adding an intro with atomsphere and speech samples. So my question is what other elements should I add? |

use some atmospheres (not only in the intro) - this brings more life ... also try some percussions and specially "wushes" in the background - this will bring you the groove |

Some additional percussive sounds are always good. The rythm section is in most cases not only the regular instruments (kick, hats, clap, snare... ) but also some non-melodic FX or FM synths. Maybe you can use some FX sounds as part of the percussion. as jaramogi said, this can be a big part of the groove...
And another idea would be some (percussively working) FM synth sounds. Maybe it would be wise to use a gate for them, that can enhance your tune a lot. |

yes, the wooshes and ambience... It's so essential, your atmosfere keeps going throughout the track u know, it's not only there in the intro... This is my biggest problem (i noticed that most people do not have a problem with this)...
My music always sounds 'flat' while my leads are ok, my basses are ok, sample/fx-shit are good even and i'm quite at home with percussion too... For months i didn't know why my music sounded so dry and lifeless and empty... Untill i noticed the fact that there was nothing that dragged the song up and down...
That's what the atmosfere and swooshes are for. But it's very hard to put them exactly right so they add to the flow instead of just making it go up and down without any purpose. At least, i have lot's of trouble with this part of making psytrance.
Up till now, not a single song i made had a decent background, and it fucks up my entire song if it's not done right, very frustrating...
Anybody got any hints on this subject? I could really use them... My next song shapes up to be quite good, but i'm afraid i'm gonna fuck it up again... |

ok fregle , u want your music to go upp and down ?
lol ... dont worry too much of fucking it up again ... ill help u with what i can ....
1. create 3-4 bassline versions and keep alternating through the entire track ... see which bassline pattern enchances which lead part the most , then build the groove according to tht bassline patterns and so on for the other patterns too ....
for 1 pattern of the bassline , u could keep a standard groove and swtich to that whenever this pattern 1 comes in .... but here intelligent sequencing is the key ... as you dont want to fuck up the listener with your entire grooves changing soo quicky .....
if a maracca ./ tambourine or a perc elemets encahnces the feel of a particular part ... use it for that section and then slowly take it out of the picture ....
2. important breaks / filter cutoffs and fade ins on anything help just create excitement along with efffect automations .... try to be as creative with your filters as your are with everything else ...
3. reverbs / delays create space and perception of time ... use them properly and make some things sit back in the mix , some forward .. so u accordinly create depth ....
4. mono / stereo .... very important to know ., which elements to create in mono and which one in stereo ... experiment with everything to see how it sounds in mono / stereo and thus this also creates a power / intensity variation in the trk in the psychoacuostical aspect ....
thts it 4 now ... hope this helps ...
respect .. chandan ! |

i don't know your track, but I could imagine, that you use the pad to make atmosphere during your track.
i've learned from dozens of my flat tracks ^^, that this is often the reason for the missing deepness and change.
try to add a lot of little signals, bloobs, single chords, ... , and invest a lot of time in delaying and reverbing these lines, and let these effects do the work of your pad.
you will see, if you do this propper, your sound will get into new dimensions.

i believe when u say "Atmospheres" you mean Pads. well, imho, pads come and go throughout the track. in some points you introduce a pad and then you let it go. this creates an up-down feeling...
and i got another tip i read in a production book: "the best atmosphere is the one that its presence is noticed only when you remove it..."
if u know what i mean

yeah. you can also add bleeps with a lot of delay with a big amount of lfo on filter cutoff in the delay, or just random noises or speech with a lot of long reverb, so that they sound like being far away, stuff like that. it all works.

Elemenet can be evry evrything ..
Lets say that you & me are talking in peace in somwher on this planet .. this tune of our speek is our music (at that time) - eny voice can be a music) . Now .. at the same time a car cross the road and we can hear the loud noise of the motor a lady open the car window and ask somthing and at the same time some some birds are singing on a tree and we are 3 can hearing them . Here you got 4 elements of your story to put in your track .
Go to your sharing prog' ask for "birds" , then a "lady" and a "car" and two ppls that talking on a pad . but this is not the all .. try work with midi keybord to creat the all of the back curious & more interesting (and dont forget the breaks to) . |
