The reverb, delay, phaser, chorus/flanger. distortion, where you use it?

I'm not using it at all, should it improve my tracks?

These effects can improve your sound definetely but they can also ruin your sound absolutely. It depends how do you use them.

Reverb is very good when you mixing tracks. It creates more space and with panning, frequency and volume determine the place of the sound. Its also very good to create ambiences and other similar staff. Gated reverb is also a very good trick to add power to snares for example.

Delay has also more purposes. It can create organic evolving rythm or stereo enhancement.

Chorus/Flanger/Phaser have similar characteristics and I use them when I want to add movement to something static like drones or even percussion loops. You can use automation on these too. Try to experiment with these.

Distortion create aggressive and sharp sound. So if one of your instruments sound dull and lost in the mix you can use distortion to boost presents of that sound. It add harmonics so the sound cuts better throught the mix.           https://soundcloud.com/nebulosity

Precisely what NEBULOsity said +1

Effects are only tools that allow you to manipulate you audio signals, you should learn what they do to the sound and how they interact together, for the best results It's one thing to think: "OK, I want a lead that comes from above in the center, starts dripping down for a few seconds, and while falling down it get's bigger and starts to swirl around itself, until it reaches lets say the middle, and it kinda of "splats" sideways, pumping out at each off beat, leaving empty space in the center for another lead to shine through, but every beat this new lead must be completely engulfed by the original one"..

All of this is easily achievable when you understand how different effects can create different auditory illusions with different settings

There's nothing like the never ending experiment, so you get the feel of what each does and when something is needed, you'll know which one to bring out

As a tip: an electric guitar has a very "pure sound", and it sounds amazing when heavily distorted; a very complex sound would probably not sound good through distortion - it'll sound distorted But, synth wise (especially acid synths) take heavy abuse from distortion, where you mainly use a simple oscillator signal (say a saw or a square), with some fine tune modulation settings, and run that through different types of distortion - and you'll unlock a huge section of psychedelic leads So, in this sense you'll benefit a lot from distortion, at least, and if that's soo for just one effect, imagine a whole bunch of them (and, many maaany different flavors of a single effect type )           Super Banana Sauce http://www.soundcloud.com/knocz

On Uhe's website, download the Uhbik's manuals!
(also the package is real nice to)

You'll find a very good description of each of the most common effects
