it has that huge resonance peak up&down when twist the frequency knob(blips&bubble tb like sounds etc. ), i find it hard sometimes to fit sounds with high resonance down there in the mix they are always masking the bass-mid section and even shelving filtering (@200-500hz) does not sit them where to sound balanced, i was thinking of a multiband compressor aiming at that band only but its too much, it has to be other way fixing that. what do you use in a case like this?

I just high pass the leads that mess with bass...high enough so that they don't mess with the bass anymore. So you can sweep a resonant high pass filter lead all the way down, yet the high pass on the EQ is going to cut all the low stuff that messes with the bassline.

i guess, but then it sounds much thinner, the sound itself and in the mix, it looses that fat and round sound if you cut till 300-400, maybe i think of it wrong, i dont say that these freq. are needed in the specific part but a way to mix them not so much hipassed with the fatness of the sound,, maybe its a wrong approach, i try to figure out

I only highpass to 150hz..its enough for me most of the times..if it is still clashing i remove at 500/2000/10000 Hz first and see how it goes..if it is still not working then sidechain helps usually..

thats the thing that gave me the muddiest mixes when i was starting out making tunes. I also loved the low stuff of a resonant high pass lead. on its own it sounds great, but in a mix it ruins everything. high pass everything that messes with the bassline. let the leads do the ripping part and let the bass do the phatness part.

see, i guess it has to be simple most of the times, where you struggle for a solution and is just one "click" away.. things have their way

when you use high pass filter, the more steep the more it degrade your sound.

I usually use a combination of shelving eq and a filter.

Anyone here using alot of noisegates? Should be nice to clean up inaudible frequencies on the tracks?

Bandarlog here on the forum also once tipped me to use Cool Edit Pro's filter function, as it has an extremely steep filter (96db's or so), and said that it tends to make his overall mixes more clean...

never tried it yet tough, a bit of a workflowkiller....

Of course!

i haven´t been using noisegates so much, but one thing is for sure, noisegates and gates are a big key to clean production..

Cool edit now days adobe audition has some great stuff, the FFT filter will clean out everything..

for what You need a 96dB of cut??
that high cut must takes a therrible effect on other freqs of sound.
I dont see any purpose for use anything above 24dB of cut. What type of sound need that deep cut?

Cutting everything and to the max is now an obsession like a loudness war

certainly agree...
but for some sounds you might need to cut very much, though sometimes changing the timbre of the sound and the way the overtones are might be a better idea..

but i totally agree that cutting too much takes the life away from sounds..
