I am interested to hear what everyone else is using. Is it better to use eq or filter?
What do you prefer and why?

I use filters to shape the sound..sort of as an effect, but I don't think I've ever used filters to bandpass the master or anything.
  You believe in the users?
Yeah, sure. If I don't have a user, then who wrote me? |

Actually the Pro Tools 7eq IS better than the waves stuff, but since it is only rtas I cannot use it in Fruity, lately I have begun highpassing the bass in PT, their eq is just better! And unlike in waves you can adjust your decibel reduction per octave from 1 pole to 4 poles...

depends on what you im working, waves, sonnox cut the lows nicely if the sound doesnt need to have at all lows, and use filters to shape the sound on the other hand much more like volcano or filtroid, mostly volcano, you can just through it on a constant saw wave and messing with the filters, the envelopes and the xlfo's you can make great sounds out of a simple waveform, not to mention hole arpeggios or chords, also i tried Sonalksis TBK series and are just amazing dedicated filters but i use these for effect filtering ie making the usual filtered come in-out sound low or hipassed

for hi passing i use an equalizer. maybe that sounds a bit stupid, but thats the answer.
mostly the equalizer is Waves Q. Sometimes Sonnox. Man, sometimes even Sonalksis. Shit, once I used Cubase's internal channels eq and it did the job

I high pass everything and use Logic's phase linear and channel EQs, until I get some Sony Oxford EQ pack. Obviously for resonant lead sounds, I use each synth's resonant high pass filters, but its them leads that you especially need to high pass as a resonant high pass filter will give a lot of bottom end out when the cut off frequency sweeps down low.

@pipes
it has that huge resonance peak up&down when twist the frequency knob(blips&bubble tb like sounds etc. ), i find it hard sometimes to fit sounds with high resonance down there in the mix they are always masking the bass-mid section and even shelving filtering (@200-500hz) does not sit them where to sound balanced, i was thinking of a multiband compressor aiming at that band only but its too much, it has to be other way fixing that. what do you use in a case like this?
