I mean, we have 'progressive' in many genres not only electronica / trance... but what exactly does it mean?

Isn't music progressive by definition? why exactly is this term used? what does it mean to you? what kind of music do you know as "PROGRESSIVE TRANCE"?

Here in Mexico almost all psytrancers think of progressive as slower trance than psy, mostly stuff like Ticon, Neelix, Ace Ventura, Gaudium, etc. i'd like to know ur opinion as producers, thank you.

i think its meant by slow and calculated buildups, music that work it self up slowly... by adding elements as you go.. and keeping the beat steady...

but i totally understand you all music is somewhat progressive otherwise it would be very boring...

something forward

serious i m not into progressive but i think you always keep the same beat and base of the track and progressively add deitails and little changes here and there to give that hypnotic feeling          ``We shall not cease from exploration - And the end of all our exploring - Will be to arrive where we started - And know the place for the first time.``

Well I always thought in the traditional sense progressive music was forward thinking. Acts like Yes and king crimson for example who were breaking away from tradition.

I think in dance music it means "there will be progression... in about 5 minutes"

I love my progressive though

For me progressive is a slower, more hypnotic, funkier vibe, which by the term "progressive" means it slowly progresses (adds more sounds, becomes fuller, more complex) as the track proceeds from start to finish.

If you are interested, here is a rather large definition of the genre/s.

definition via democracy. Definitely objective.

Fact is, someone probably called it progressive coz it made him feel in a "progressive" way at the time he thought it, and only at that one time.

Where progressive was whatever he felt it was on the substance he was doing. And hence the sound of progressive.

And now all the progressive wars can rage for all eternity.

any term sucks and tells nothing about any direction of electronic music. what i think to be minimal/progressive/psy/fullon/dark will never be exactly the same what u think it to be

progressive as usuall in psytrance is different than I would ever think of as a term.Good progressive for me is a bit tribal maybe - regarding on the much artists that identify or work on and represent.
I myself think on progressive as a term itself as more experimental.           https://soundcloud.com/shivagarden

What do you understand by 'progressive'?

nothing.

that its gonna be 130-140 bpm probably. nothing more..

it used to describe so much good stuff side by side with shit stuff so... i dont get anything from the term.
same with fullon - dark - minimal tech - ambient and everything.

what i understand better is - good / bad

i understand as a type of music based on layering more stuff without losing the previows, building it up. can see that in many styles not only trance.
thers lot of music that cannot be progressive as they keep changing their elements(sometimes radicaly) as the track develops.
thats wht i understand as progressive music.
