What is a "good produced track"?
What do you need to make a well produced track? Hardware? Software? Skill?
Why not every track are well produced?
Thanks.

good production means crystal clear sound and the freq. are well mastered.
in order to make high quality productions you need good hardware software, lots of knowladge in sound engineering and dedication to your music.

Imagine being in a renowned Restaurant with over-expensive Menus...... and the waiter brings U a 'QuarterPounder with Cheese'...
There's something wrOng... agree ?
LOL i am a bit kiddin' (trying to forget my worry of the day) but I think it is a bit the same in music.
Gilad said it well... Crystal Clear Sound requires talent & experience, I believe.
Cheers

Interesting question - I'm trying to learn what makes a "well-produced" track at the moment! If you ever try to write a tune, you realise that even if you come up with great ideas for a bass and rhythm and everything else, it's still not easy to get everything sounding "right". It's difficult to describe, but you notice more when the mixing production is "wrong" - it sounds "muddy", or some instruments stand out too loud or "step on" other sounds and muffle them or it just doesn't sound "bright" and clear enough.
You can do courses to learn what frequencies are important for different instuments and how to mesh them together and stuff, but I think it take a lot of experience as well, to train your ear to recognise what is wrong with a mix and know how to fix it.

Well, I'm no producer and not a sound man, so I can't give you a professional answer. There are quite a few artists here, some of them produce in very high quality and they might give you some leads. But let me tell you, it's not something you learn over a couple of lines of text. It's a sciense, and it's art, and it requires a lot of experience and talent as well. And also A LOT of hard work.
For me music is well produce when it surrounds me, when it's everywhere in the room, when it manages to convey the musical message in a holistic way (note that this might require different productions for different messages). For me music is well produced when no matter what you play it on, it sound excellent.
Only in the last few years I became aware of this perspective of music (through trance) and I find it facenating. I've learned to go deeper into music through that and to appreciate what a strong factor it has on enjoying the music.
Yet, though some ppl get confused, it's only one aspect of music, even not the major one, I believe. And you need a little more than good production to make good music.
BTW Kino, I'm sure you can contribute more to this discussion.

Thanks for all answers...
I only want to learn, so that I can appreciate psytrance from other angles. I don´t have the intention to produce music. There are already lots of good music that I never listened to.
But some questions remains: how can I recognize a good produced track? It must sound good in most sound systems?
Because in the review session one person says: "good production!" and other person says: "this is crap production".
And what happens during the mastering process?
Thanks.

well electronic music production is usealy done by the artist him self, the producer job is to take the project from the start to his end.
a big producer said once :"the range of a producer applications is from making coffie to the ppl in the studio to slap the artist and playing in his gituer"
my point is that well production track is not only crystel clear sounds and well mastered mix ,it's about ideas and make them come true,
some time he can take very low quelty track and make it a real dancefloor blast,
a good production track for me (and it could be in any style) is that you can SEE the work that was puting in: good ideas, start and end, well preformence, musical feets and a little sound quelty will make a good productions tracks, and i will back to my first sentance and say that becouse in this sence allmost all the artist produce them selfves the work is begining to be a little more harder.

imo gilad is right, but i dont think that the quality of the mix and mastering depends on the kind of software\hardware u work with, good mix and sound depends on the way u compose the track and your knowledge in sound engineering , and a god producer should have a lot of it...
i also think that most of the minimal tracks are packed with good quality because they contain a low amount of used channels and the mix is not heavy as full-on.
good production is also the way u use your sound and samples. u need a groove , groove is the way a sample come with another sample and creates harmonic sound.
imagination also plays here an important roll.
u can create your own way of mix and sound and i think thats the best way to do it.

hehe, ofcourse u cant create a good quality with a cheap software\hardware , but theres a minimum standard...i think that a nice sound card and a standard amp+monitors is enough
when i said
"i dont think that the quality of the mix and mastering depends on the kind of software\hardware u work with "
i ment that u dont really need all these fancy modules and stuff like that to create a good production. |
