IMHO it is a mater of taste, not about knowledge.
He is offended because u wouldn't like his 148+ music without even listening to it.
It is true one should open mind and always be in position to accept new perspectives but also one cannot be forced to like something in particular. Man i hate papaya, for example, no mater if you serve it fresh and pretty i still would not like the taste of papaya.
But a transformation process is happening inside us at every moment, most of us explore new dimensions in music according to what we find pleasant, and thats the whole point of this thread, to check on what people like and dislike, an important part of our psy.profile.
Sometimes what we don't like we then like and what we like end up disgusting us. Sometimes what we dislike is something we dislike from our own selves.
Enough with the blah... |

Like:
- Intros that has a good way of introducing the K&B
- Twisted and glithcy breaks & odd periods
- Good use of reverb and delay to create atmosphere
- Abstract melodies
- Really powerful basslines or wobbly polkalike grooves
Dislike:
- Intros that have nothing to do with anything
- Straight periods exclusively
- Generic melodies and chord progression

like:
-good melodies
-nice fat kick
-extensive use of the good old 303
-atmosphere (i'm especially fond of "ancient mysterious" or "outer space" atmospheres )
-abstract sounds and creative use of synthesis
-complexity! (there's hardly any track that's too crammed with different sounds and/or melodies for me. the more the better!)
-tracks (or even better whole albums) that tell a story
-creative (and extensive) use of gates, delay, ..
-variations in the kick pattern
Dislike:
-when the bass becomes too dominant (i.e. really powerful or wobbly polkalike basslines )
-minimal techno like bleeps (i really really hate them)
-noisy and/or glitchy sounds most often found in almost all of modern darkpsy
-generic sounds, melodies or chord progressions (fullon, i'm looking at you!)
-very sparse arrangements
-false buildups, "put your hands up in the air"-passages (i don't want to cheer to the dj and wait for the music to start (and wait again and again), i want to dance.)
-kbbb at over ca. 145-150bpm (aka low frequency hum instead of kick and bass)
-tracks over 160bpm or under 135bpm (not good for dancing)
-basslines that jump all over the place
-nitzhonot melodies
-melodies that sound out of tune
-cheesyness |

Like:
Glitch that makes musical sense.
Polytonal music - (I've never heard an atonal piece of trance - its always in a key).
16th dugga dugga basslines.
Robot noises.
Genuinely progressive music and sets ( I do not mean progressive trance, but trance that is progressive).
Dislike:
Pixie/Goblin/Elf vibe.
Psy-trance that is neither psy nor trance.
Glitch for the sake of glitch.
Slavish adherence to scales - even remote ones.
'432hz Tuning of the superconscious' style psuedoscience.
Hippies.
Overpoliticisation of the scene - not all art has to be political - my music expressely isn't, although I suppose that means it is - its fucking ridiculous I feel that its an issue that I need to consider though.
Safe 'easy listening' record labels.
Most releases since 2000/1 - although I'm liking quite a lot of 'forest' psy of late.

Like, either fantastic production and energy management like Astrix or else full harmonic constructions like Infected, or seminal dramatic horror psy like Delta...dislike, almost everything I hear that does not excel in either production, innovation, or both...too many journeymen are afraid to do something weird, well it's not like people are buying much music anymore, so go for it...half the fun is picking up a "rule," glancing at it, and tossing it out the window.
Wheeee have a nice trip! :J

Hey bro, sorry to be so abrupt. I did come across as rude and that's not really me. I apologise.
I am just fed up with the way people who listen to psytrance seem so stuck on bpm's, go to any forum and you'll find discussion on why this speed is better than that speed.
I have heard good trance at all speeds, from 110 bpm to 300 bpm it's all good if made well and creatively.
So many people are like you and say things like 'psytrance is shit if it is above xxx bpm'
For a genre of music that was founded around the idea of opening your mind we are a closed minded bunch of freaks.
But granted, you like what you like, and what you like often changes.
I used to really dislike dark psy and was right into scandinavian style prog, then I got into fast dark psy, a year ago I hardly listened to psytrance, now I have been digging zenon style dark prog.
Like: creative psytrance.
Dislike: cut and paste psytrance.

biggest dislike these days - artists using the same fucking snare in every track put at the front of the mix - forever. It has gotten so bad at times that I load a track into ableton and notch out the snare frequency to hide it a bit just so I can listen to the track and not get upset
If you want to make an apple pie from scratch...you must first invent the universe
