From chill to fullon to dark to suomi... thinking of every psytrance subgenre, what kind of elements u like / not like?
I Like:
- Big ambiences, lots of flybys and atmospheric
- Speedy trance hypnotic sequences
- Dancey not cheese melodies
- Good sampling / editing ala Headroom / FlipFlop
- Strange noises, like granular and pitchbending
Dislike:
- Ultra fast tempos
- Flamenco guitars, woman singing, rap
- Sidechained padlike leads when overused
- Transilvania melodies
Just to throw a phew.

like:
- epic intros
- good kick+bass combos
- melodies with ethnic flavour
- amazing sounding synths, that makes you wonder HTF does the producer achieve them.
dislike:
- some jump-all-over-the-place basslines
- man vocal singing..
- that thin cutting blips and stabs.. with very high freqs.. used on dark - evil background noises and moans, used on dark too

i like:
- broad evolving atmospheres/pads/strings (all of them, dark, natural, heavenly, ..)
- groovy innovative kick/bassline(s) combos
- great layered melodies with lots of rythmic modulations
- different pan/reverb modulations on many sounds
- screaming 303
- lower bpm ranges
i dislike:
- too dominant and/or stereotypical hihat, snare, clap, fx usage
- breaks'n'fills and one-shots everywhere

what i really dislike is the hippy 'jesus look' that has become a 'trademark' ....
hippy life is 1 thing..... I Respect that !
dressing up like 1 and dreading your hair has become the 'dresscode' of psytrance..
that..i dont like....
also for years now i regulary see hippy jesus's in my town..dreads and all..worn out clothes..sandals and all the hippy-like characteristics..
and wait for it.....they go about like this driving theie expensive peugeot and ford cars...NOW thats Irony !!
Only thing i dont like in the scene !!

What I like in psy -
Occasional musical talent of artists. Its rare, but when I find it I listen to it over and over and over, like a mad dog.
Unique possibilities of the genre are really cool.
Unique vehicle for delivering moods and atmospheres.
I like how really good psy gets into my imagination, like nothing else.
What I don't like -
99% copying of style and technique
99% ignorance of good composition
99% ignorance of musical devices like contrast, prosody, groove.
99% ignorance of musical vision.
No quality control to identify all the "Me too's" for me to dump off my listening list.
Glut caused by politeness and lack of constructive criticism of the form "U sound like everyone else. give it up!"
The biggest problem is I don't have time to listen to crap, and theres no convenient way to find out what the skill level/originality of a producer is - anywhere.

Like:
-Pad,choirs and other atmospheric sounds
-Groovy energetic basslines
-Ethno sounds
-Good story and arrangement
-Melodies with emotional touch(not cheesy)
-Weird sounds somehow not darkish but tripy
-Delayed,reverbed voices,singing,whispering.....
-Brakes that move the sound higher
-Artists that have own sound,trip,story and vibe
Don`t like:
-trrrttrt basslines on high bpm`s
-Sick mind exploding over processed sounds and leads
-Brakes with no reason on every 8th bar or just brakes with no idea and flow
-Cheesy pop remixes
-Plastic pop cheesy overused vocal samples and drug themes
-Copies of Astrix sound(todays full on)
-Boring copycat arrangements,intros and other parts
-Funky wtf basslines that comes after 2nd brake and everybody is like uuuooohhh and the rest that comes
-Distorted guitars with simple riff
-Artist who make money,but no music or just to lame and cheesy tracks & people who are abusing drugs and listening that....

When overall athmosphere of track sits comfortably with kick and bass.And I can both dance to it if I want to,or just get lost in the track,sitting comfortably in my chair stoned to death,catching myself waking up in the middle of the track,while shaking my head side to side.
Great use of athmosphere pads.Also,don't know why,but I just love that "sea/wind" sweep , just awesome.
When the track is like a book with many chapters.Listening to the same shit for 8 minutes is fukking boring.
Change your bassline,change your kick,change your instruments every minute or two,as if you start to read new chapter in the book,is the shit mandess.
Great FM leads,but not overused.I hate too much riffs,for me personally it can be nice for a couple of seconds,entire track made out of it,and I ain't comming back.Gated small leads is the shit.
The "rolling" sensation,that what makes my go hipnotized.When you have some stabs that suddenly go delayed and rolling and rolling,and then turn up again and turning to something else.
There is depth of instruments-i.e correct use of reverb.I really like the feeling of some instrument somewhere back there,getting close and other instruments go far,as if you travel.
Whatever,to make long story short,that is exactly what I like the best .This is what got me in,and this is what keeps me in.
My number one favorite.Did a lot of shit for me.Genious.
Also the stuff of Solar Spectrum.I don't know why they aren't famous much at all,I loved pretty much everything they have done,and they also don't stick to kbb but variate much.For example(they are more on the prog side thought).
Dislike:most of the psy today....Not much soul,not much classical music theory behind,only people who are good with technicalities of production.Kick and fullon bass for 8 minutes,with FX here and there.
No storytelling,no soul,no deep sensations,a lot of technical production and the race who will get higher BPM (I isually don't like anything faster than the 145,limited dancing posibillities,limited posibilities to get lost in trance inside the track,cause the fast kick just "kicks" me out from the song back to reality,and also less space for productive sounds).

Or dark stuff,if you are altered,good chance dark stuff can make your trip go sower.
If this is a future,I am building time machine.

-full power psychedelic / forest / chillout / ambient / dubstep, which is innovative and original, not copy/paste of style/sound, good evolving atmospheres, gnomes and elves dancing in the forest
Dislike:
-cheesy music, full on, screaming samples, overuse of samples, cheesy vocals, cheesy/overused guitars, that darkpsy lead that everyone is asking about, golden rays
