Do you use vst's to change the sounds, make a different arrangement, what is it that makes your remix different or should I say distinguishable?

I would take out the parts i like. Most remix packs i get are in wav format.
So i sort out the "crap" and try to incoperate my own sound into the remix using some of the original elements. I chop, reversed, rearrange and so on. Try different fx on the different parts. And then i start to add my own sound into it.
But i guess there is tons of ways to do it.
For me the most important thing is that even tho its a remix i still want it to sound like me + the original.
I hope im making sence

everyone has a personal touch.. more or less unique.

I use my own drum kits and sometimes bass.
If I like the track and the sounds in it, I feel inspired to add my own sounds and extra samples.

The good sounds, I keep them as they are.
If I don't like a certain sound, I don't use it... but if it is a key sound on the track, I try to make it more beautiful.

on some remixes, I do big changes on the arrangements if they sound good. sometimes, I keep very close to the original.

Heh yeah the only remix I've done sofar (well, am in the process of doing) is pretty much a new track with some FX and hooks from the original

Would have been different had I been sent stems or something tho.            If you want to make an apple pie from scratch...you must first invent the universe

Thank you Cadmium, that does make sense. I have tried myself at remixing stuff recently, and always found it kinda boring, not original enough for my taste, it felt like repeating another artists work. Naturally I was not satisfied with the results...           Upavas - Here And Now (Sangoma Rec.) new EP out Oct.29th, get it here:

I feel the same. I always end up dumping the remix files and just make the track into something original
When i fire up the Virus, the remix files always seem to become insignifigant for me
Lets just call it a curse......

We try to keep the material that corresponds to our sound, sometimes this is utterly impossible and you need to "sell out" some of your pride and use a sound that you do not like or need but in order to make the track a remix and not a original mix you sometimes have no choice. Always change the bassline imo.

me too.
I've done alot of remixes lately, mostly on tracks that i've been enjoying for years and felt i wanna make a own version of. Remixing tracks are both fun and intressting to do imo. To keep the original flavours + morph it in to your own style wich could be kinda hard. Like my 3rd album, includes lots of remixes, everything from Jaia to a more wicked track from Hux flux. All twizacked
