All good advice thanks hip ....

Method I've been trying so far: -
I would upload the track to a sendspace (full mp3)
get a link and email it with a message to label owners and then wait for a response .... using this method i did get feedback from a few labels. Say 2/6

Now that you mention it, I did receive an email once about a year ago saying that the track didn't match the labels style and they were looking for deeper stuff at the time.

Thanks to all contributing to the thread. Keep it lively.

Don't use sendspace/yousendit etc...

Get a free dropbox-account and host the file there. Make a .zip-file with the tracks as well as a .nfo file with contact-information and a short bio and put it in your public dropbox-folder.           DJ pr0fane (Iboga Records) | Multiphase

Zip file with contact information and short bio is another excellent idea. You know how I'll be sending out my demos from now on.

Just curious why no to "sendspace/yousendit? (No big deal really .... I'll use anything that effective and gets the job done. )

Cheers mate

I feel like sending/making CD of .wav files or lossless is much better than .mp3....

am I wrong about this? idk, i just feel that whenever i make an .mp3 of my tracks they lose all their sparkle and life.           --

Yeah, if you want to make a good impression, don't send .mp3s!           http://hermetechmastering.com : http://www.discogs.com/artist/Gregg+Janman : http://soundcloud.com/babaluma

Well, when it comes to mp3s or wavs - I think it's best to check out what label prefers.

You'll see a that a lot of labels prefer different stuff once you start collecting adresses to send demos to.

Some of them dont want tracks that have been placed on your soundcloud account, for example.
Some want download links, some want stream links...

A short bio in a zip file is also very good tip.
What is also good (I think, at least) is to name the zip file so that it includes the name of the label, for example:
Liquid Acoustics - Demo for Cocoon Records

That way the label will know it was sent to them, and that you didn't just upload it and send a link to hundred labels.
It takes more time and uploading, but i think it can be worth it sometimes

Just create a soundcloud profile, upload tracks there. Mastering might be beneficial, but not mandatory.

Send the letter with your SC link to as many labels as possible (good that the number of psy labels tends to thousands). Include the short info about you (really short, name, age, country, releases if any) in the email. Don't use attachments.

Soundcloud is good because it is easy to get an idea of the music there. You can listen to it on vacation and tours too, while downloading a wave pack might have special requirements.

Remember that many trance labels are held by people who has other things to do, so give them some time after you send the first letter. If no answer in a month you may want to repeat the email once.

Sure use Facebook too. Lots of people are there now, not a problem to reach label owners too.

If your music is good you'll be contacted earlier or later 100%.

Label database is here:
http://www.psydb.net/labels/list.php

If you are up to mastering, you may want to check my signature too. Thanks.

Just one more question about soundcloud?

If you upload the whole track on soundcloud isn't there a risk if the track not being fresh if it does get released?

I just want to mention that my experience is mostly from contacting techno and techhouse labels, since I left the psy scene long time ago.

And those labels can be quite picky and elitist sometimes
I don't think that's the case with psy labels, though.

But, some of those tech labels wont even consider releasing a track that has been posted on soundcloud.
As I said earlier, it's best to check what the label prefers.

I haven't read through all the replies here but what i did is create a Soundcloud profile and emailed a few different labels and the ones that gave me a response i sent them the link to the track.

Choosing a label for me was dependent on which one of them replied. One replied and i was asked if i wanted to release an E.P so i said yes and pumped out a second track and they gave me the option if i want to send a mastered mixdown or leave the mastering up to them. I sent them the mixdown and they did all the work!

Signed the contract for the E.P and submitted it with my tracks and that was it! Later got asked to send them more music which is always cool if they like your stuff! Try and build up a relationship with them too!

Nice one L66 ... Congratulations man

I think I might try the same approach ....
Is it possible to have stuff uploaded to soundcloud where it is private and can't be viewed by everyone.

Thanks in advance,

Thanks man!

Yeah there is an option to make your tracks private when you upload your track.           http://soundcloud.com/multiv3rse

If you're talking to a label rep on eg. Skype, it's much better to send a 256-320kbps mp3 quickly, than it is to make them wait up to ten times as long for a wav. A high-bitrate mp3 is enough to demonstrate the quality of the production, and you can offer to send the wav later if they like the mp3.           Mastering - http://mastering.OOOD.net :: www.is.gd/mastering
